Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Developing a brand identity or a business logo that is both unforgettable and expresses the story about who you are or what you actually do is a massive undertaking. The difficulty is to make a design concept that is simplistic enough to be comprehended at a glimpse and conveys enough relevant information that it can express who you are. However no logo design can totally tell your story or explain your business, and going down that road often makes for a logo design that does neither. Although, in experienced hands, it is possible to strike a balance between both and design a brand identity that both informs and emotes and hitting that sweet spot is what your business should wish for from their logo designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am a free lance branding specialist. For over 20 years I have been creating unforgettable logos and brand identity designs that tell stories and resonate with customers. However don’t take my word for it, check out my logo portfolio and discover for yourself. I do not claim that I’m the greatest logo designer in the world, but, I do know what I am actually doing and my clients are inclined to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often said with such fervor by individuals working in the branding sector, that one has to wonder why so many people in branding companies despise logo designs as much as they appear to. It is definitely true that your logo is not your brand, but what does that make a business that has no logo? One thing is quite certain, it ensures that a brand with no logo will be faceless and easily forgotten.

Without a logo, an organization’s brand is nothing more than a fading memory because customers would have nothing to anchor their brand experiences too.

Some people compare a logo to a smile or a handshake which is slightly true, however it’s actually a lot more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also functions as the cornerstone of a business’s brand. A logo acts as an anchor due to the fact that the entire brand experience is anchored to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, because a cornerstone is the first stone laid when building the foundation of the structure above it, and once laid it will serve as the guiding reference point for every building block that comes after it. A logo works in the same way, it is a foundational element that supports the organization it represents, and it also serves as a defining reference point that guides a brand as it develops.

ImageCo is a visual branding agency and our goal is to assist our customers lay that cornerstone as well as set that anchor. We help companies look established, more polished, and more experienced. This ensures that our clients will always be taken seriously, and are not only worthy of a seat at the table, but look like they ought to be seated at the head of that table.

Horn Lake LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping businesses of all kinds cultivate notable brand identities. We have undertaken branding work for mechanics, universities, diamond miners, wedding singers, bistros, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business you can think of. What makes us unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be employed as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first technique our identity designs can, and have been used in everything from fashion labels to billboards. Our sign first approach guarantees that our logo designs are equally effective whether they are used in television commercials or website headers, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and remembered irrespective of size or function.

American Made ★ Design

Something that really sets ImageCo apart from many of the design firms that you might possibly have found on-line, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every design project we are contracted to do, we do in-house. No matter the type of design project we undertake, brand identity design, web page, trade show exhibit, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will farm-out our customer’s work to agencies located outside the United States. Whenever you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that marks up the cost of your design project and determines the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Horn Lake business knows they require a logo, yet few new business owners thoroughly grasp the pivotal role their organization’s logo can play in their financial success, or precisely why one logo performs more effectively than another. A logo has an immediate and lasting effect on the growth of a business, go with the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the life span of an organization.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Horn Lake companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not require contemplation, they can be understood in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to retail signs a scalable logo will remain legible and equally emotive at virtually any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the product or business they brand.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be lasting and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the process of marking something to ensure that it could be distinguished, its origin comes from the mark burned onto animals. These days a brand symbolizes practically anything with an intention, whether it be profit or government agencies, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of specifying the worth of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s attractive sister, they are all from the very same family, the difference being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest aimed at a target audience, it’s goal is to create a mental image that the target market will connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing and identity design. When someone states the brand names Ferrari or Mustang what we think about is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those products. Brand image is why individuals purchase most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Firms – If you reflect on the beginning of a lot of branding agencies you’ll find that they are quite often re-branded marketing and advertising companies. When somebody claims they are in marketing many people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or heard are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a type of visual design that helps shape the public image of a company, a product or an institution. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, sign designs, packaging, as well as collateral products such as cards, stationery, and brochures. Some visual designers also develop websites and also user interfaces. The essential duty of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues and also a psychological tone with the objective of influencing actions, results and also perceptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Horn Lake coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee bar were launching in an old section of the community and wanted to cast a retro feel without coming across as boring or low energy. I fulfilled each of the jobs by means of designing a business logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a enduring business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide as well as germs made for Horn Lake medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that studies the root causes and consequences of diseases, especially the branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is really the only instance I remember in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves quite literally, but it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more captivating, more attention grabbing and more unforgettable.

logo style with a leaping eco-friendly frog designed for a family fun center in Horn Lake.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the company has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to incorporate a couple springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a group of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - designed for Horn Lake traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector because travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead project emotional experiences by means of the pictures they record. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of good photographers in that they often convey whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be conveyed with mere words. I tried to do something very similar to this logo by using the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Horn Lake logo design but also to show the depth in her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Horn Lake logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of business logo design jobs that I take on I honestly savor and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A however the client, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This guy really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members did not share his scorn for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage all of them to share it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get honest opinions on the merit of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logo designs are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to design their business logo understand how important a logo is for their business so they are much more invested in the final result. Every logo project has it’s portion of challenges, however the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Horn Lake book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender slice of real estate to work with, nevertheless it really is the most crucial part of a published book considering that it is ordinarily the primary thing a person sees in the bookstore. Regarding a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity that they will ever get to advertise their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars customized to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go nevertheless it seems that in many cases one of the things people tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller startup commuter/shuttle airline based in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to conferring a good sense of airline flight and it was definitely a winner.

Horn Lake logo design made use of for advertising and marketing and a tag style for Vintage Situation includes an archaic font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be vintage cases. For this custom logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that had a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be used for everything from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different generation.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Horn Lake, style include an arc with lines converging via it to indicate metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can be one of the most difficult logo jobs considering that it appears that every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the same way dentists do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really love doing dental logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and ultimately I created a design that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a family members nonprofit, the logo includes 4 personalities startled in height to represent a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wishes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to describe exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that explains itself will never have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo design produced for a Horn Lake hair design workshop including a script font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a logo design that projected an atmosphere of ease and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design which did not go the obvious course of creating merely a stylized orchid but rather delivered a business logo that suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated in to the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the logo design using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is usually the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately placed the emphasis on the feeling that they really wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian horse logo style created for a horse cattle ranch that focuses on reproducing Arabian show equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed an original company logo concept customized to embody the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of equines. With an unique head form and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most immediately recognizable horse lineages in the world.

Las Cafe, A Horn Lake restaurant logo layout a little dining establishment, design includes a modified script font style which floats above a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo design a little restaurant, layout includes a customized manuscript font style which floats over a team of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo layout for a software program programmer the design functions and famous Horn Lake component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it meant something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the substance supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it brands the business it represents.

Develop logo design created for a Horn Lakeinterior developer, style function a collection of red circles that intersect as well as replace the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Horn Lake interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a professional who prepares, investigates, collaborates, and oversees such tasks. Interior design is a diverse occupation that involves conceptual development, space planning, site assessments, programming, investigation, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Horn Lake, the characters for letter V as well as A in middle of the word advanced have actually been changed to link straight into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Horn Lake logo design assignment was undertaken for a management specialist that helps business professionals to become more successful at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A Horn Lake business logo layout featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly understood the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a place to sell off their previously owned items to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Horn Lake business logo design along with an image that garners the attention of traffic and sends an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ ranches, this Horn Lake company logo style has actually a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem idea wasn’t actually produced for an Horn Lake area farm it was in reality created for a commodities broker, and this company logo was one of multiple that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to generate an identity that projected assurance, success, and opulence.

Horn Lake Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo style attribute for ostensibly dealing with arrowhead and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the opportunity to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of knowing where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo designed for the use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript font that is reminiscent of a famous Horn Lake sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked directly with the business owner to develop a logo that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
