TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so whenever a design company offers a money back guarantee try to remember that they can not reimburse the amount of time you invest which is much more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but ultimately a design firm can only be evaluated by the quality of their design work, if the work in their portfolio doesn’t contain actual examples odds are they will never be able to deliver a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s goal is to mirror your personal vision for your company. If a designer isn’t focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how quickly they can get paid.

Madison LOGO DESIGN

For over 20 years ImageCo has been helping small business owners grow unforgettable brands. We’ve undertaken brand design work for builders, colleges, diamond miners, wedding singers, coffee shops, retail stores, and practically every other kind of business you can think of. What makes ImageCo different compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every design as though it will be used as an electric sign. Because of our sign first technique our designs can, and have been employed in everything from garment labels to neon signs. Our sign first method ensures that our logos are just as reliable whether they are used in TV commercials or web apps, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and always remembered no matter of size or function.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference which seriously sets ImageCo apart from other design companies that you might possibly have encountered on-line, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every design project we are brought on board to perform, we do ourselves. No matter the type of design project we accept, logo design, website design, trade show booth, or electrical sign, we do not, and never will farm-out our customer’s projects to organizations located outside the USA. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that marks up the price of your design project and determines the terms of how my customers and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Madison entrepreneur realizes that they probably need a logo, however few start ups fully comprehend the key role their organization’s logo will play in their success, or the reason that one logo design functions better than another. A business logo has a critical and sustaining influence on the prosperity of a business, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, go with the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of an organization. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Madison companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require deliberation, they can be grasped in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to store signs a scalable logo design will continue to be legible and equally emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the item or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be ageless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is a verb and also a noun, it’s an identifying mark and the act of marking something to make sure that it can be distinguished, its genesis originates from the mark burned onto livestock. Nowadays a brand symbolizes pretty much anything with a motive, regardless of whether it be revenue or political parties, a brand is an inherent aspect of specifying the value of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s attractive cousin, they are all from the exact same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest directed at a specific audience, it’s goal is to develop an image that the target market will likely connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When a person states the brand names Ferrari or Mustang what we think of is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, beauty, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and brand image is what makes individuals want those brands. Brand image is why individuals acquire most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the beginning of a lot of branding firms you’ll find that they are often rebranded advertising and marketing agencies. When someone says they are in advertising and marketing the majority of people will likely have an idea about what they do. Yet when someone claims “I am in branding”… it just seems much more impressive, possibly it’s because lots of people don’t recognize what it suggests to be in branding so it comes off as mysterious and perhaps even attractive.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that describes the visual elements of a product or business that influence perceptions. This primarily consists of the name, the logo design, the product packaging, the colors used however can likewise include audio, illumination, texture, signage, really anything that can be seen, felt or listened to belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a designer that specializes in a kind of visual design that helps form the image of a firm, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, sign designs, product packaging, and collateral products such as cards, stationery, as well as sales brochures. Some visual designers also design websites and also software interfaces. The important duty of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues and an emotional tone with the objective of influencing actions, end results and perceptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo layout of a bicycle created for a Madison coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually opening in an old section of the city and wished to project an old-fashioned feel without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I fulfilled both tasks by designing a custom logo concept that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscope slide and germs designed for Madison clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that investigates the root causes and effects of diseases, especially the branch of medicine which deals with the clinical examination of samplings of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the sole instance I recall in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Usually I try not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, however it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more appealing, more focus grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo layout with a leaping environment-friendly frog created for a family fun facility in Madison.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of jobs that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental experts, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to include a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design including a group of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - designed for Madison traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but instead project emotional experiences by means of the images they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of the majority of good photographers in that they frequently share whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with mere words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Madison logo design but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Madison logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of custom logo design jobs that I take on I seriously enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however my customer, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man truly despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family did not share his hatred for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I urge them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial opinions on the benefit of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Business logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to design their logo realize how important a logo design is for their business so they are much more vested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s portion of hurdles, but the greatest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for Madison book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender segment of real estate to work with, nevertheless it is the most critical part of a printed book given that it is in most cases the very first thing a person sees in the bookstore. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the opportunity that they will ever have to advertise their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches customized to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go however it seems that in many instances 1 of the traits people often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small fledgling commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their logo design didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a good sense of air travel and it was certainly a success.

Madison logo design utilized for advertising and marketing and also a tag design for Vintage Case features an old typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, which looked to be vintage cases. For this logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that had a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be used for anything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another era.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Madison, layout include an arc with lines intersecting through it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can easily be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects considering that it appears that each and every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company advertising, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental practices do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would most likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I actually love doing dentistry logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a household not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in height to represent a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The objective of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to describe how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If people have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that describes itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo layout created for a Madison hair design studio including a script font a hummingbird as well as an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a company logo that carried an atmosphere of ease and connection for their new hair salon. I came up with a concept that didn’t go the obvious path of crafting merely a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a logo design that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept along with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is more often than not the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the focus on the feeling that they really wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian horse logo layout produced for a horse cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian show equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed a unique logo design styled to manifest the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of equines. With an unique head form and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the very most quite easily recognizable horse types in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Madison Coffee shop logo style a small restaurant, design contains a changed script font which floats above a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo design a little dining establishment, layout contains a customized script font which floats above a group of luxuriant lines and dots.

Logo layout for a software designer the layout features and also iconic Madison component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive operations. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a connection in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it meant something to the business owner of the business and in quite a few cases the substance behind a business logo is just as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

Evolve logo style developed for a Madisonindoor developer, layout feature a collection of red circles that intersect and replace the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Madison interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who arranges, investigates, coordinates, and manages such ventures. Interior design is a multifaceted occupation that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspections, programming, study, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and execution of the design.

logo style provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Madison, the personalities for letter V and also A in center of the word progressed have actually been changed to tie directly into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Madison logo design job was done for a leadership consultant that helps business professionals to develop into more successful at managing people, expectations, and profitability.

A Madison business logo layout including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly realized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a place to market their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Madison logo design design utilizing an illustration that grabs the attention of traffic and sends an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Madison company logo style has actually an area integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo concept wasn’t really composed for an Madison regional farm it was in reality designed for a commodities broker, and this particular creative logo was one of several that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to produce an identity that projected assurance, success, and wealth.

Madison Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo design feature for outwardly dealing with arrowhead and the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design that they would like, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the flexibility to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of realizing where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular case, I hit a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo design made for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script font that is reminiscent of a popular Madison sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed quite a lot of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking where I worked closely with the proprietor to produce a logo design which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
