TIPS ON SELECTING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design agency presents a money back guarantee try to remember that they can not reimburse the time you invest which is eminently more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some designers talk a good game but in the end a design firm can only be determined from the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t contain real world examples chances are they will never be able to produce a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s goal is to reflect your personal vision for your organization. If a logo designer isn’t focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how quickly they can get paid.

Kansas City LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping entrepreneurs develop unforgettable brands. We have performed brand identity design work for builders, universities, heart surgeons, wedding singers, diners, retail stores, and practically every other kind of business concern you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every logo design project as if it will be employed as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first approach our designs can, and have been employed in everything from clothing labels to electrical signs. Our sign first method ensures that our logo designs are equally successful whether they are used in TV commercials or web apps, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and always remembered no matter of scale or function.

American Made ★ Design

The thing that truly sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you may have encountered on-line, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are contracted to do, we do ourselves. Irrespective of the type of project we take on, logo design, business website, trade show booth, or electric sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to contractors located outside the US. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a go-between that marks up the price of your design project and determines the terms of how my customers and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Kansas City company understands that they require a logo, however few start-ups entirely understand the crucial role their business logo can play in their success, or exactly why one business logo functions better than another. A company logo has a critical and lasting impact on the growth of a company, pick the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a business. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Kansas City businesses prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not need scrutiny, they can be grasped in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to store signs a scalable business logo will stay legible and equally emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be enduring and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the act of marking something to ensure that it could be recognized, its origin comes from the mark burned onto livestock. These days a brand represents basically anything with an objective, regardless of whether it be profit or politics, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of defining the value of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s attractive cousin, they are all from the exact same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity contest aimed at a target audience, it’s goal is to create a mental image that the audience will relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing and identity design. When someone says the brand names Ferrari or Corvette what we think of is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, beauty, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals want those brands. Brand image is why individuals get specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you look back at the beginning of many branding companies you’ll discover that they are frequently re-branded advertising and marketing agencies. When a person says they are in advertising the majority of people will likely have an idea about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or heard belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a type of visual design which helps shape the public image of a firm, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers create logo designs, signage designs, packaging, as well as collateral material such as cards, stationery, and also brochures. Some identity designers also design web sites and also user interfaces. The vital duty of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the objective of influencing activities, results and also assumptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo design of a bike produced for a Kansas City coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and coffee bar were actually opening in an old part of the city and hoped to project a vintage vibe without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished both tasks by designing a symbol design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide as well as germs designed for Kansas City clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that studies the root causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which works with the laboratory examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the sole instance I call to mind in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Usually I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents very literally, however it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more interesting, more attention grabbing and more unforgettable.

logo style with a jumping environment-friendly frog made for a family members fun facility in Kansas City.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to integrate a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a much more dynamic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I did was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and also a tree - developed for Kansas City travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but instead project emotional experiences through the images they record. The thought behind this logo concept was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they often convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance that can’t be revealed with just words. I made an effort to do something much the same to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Kansas City logo but also to reveal the depth to her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Kansas City logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design projects that I take on I truly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A but my client, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man genuinely disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family members didn’t share his contempt for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage them to talk about it with friends and family as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get objective viewpoints on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they really loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to create their logo comprehend how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are way more vested in the result. Every logo job possesses it’s allotment of hurdles, however the greatest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for Kansas City book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow parcel of real estate to work with, yet it is the most critical part of a published book since it is in most cases the very first thing a person views in the book shop. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will likely ever get to promote their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches changed to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go nevertheless it seems like that in many instances one of the items folks usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle airline based in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a good sense of airline flight and it was surely a winner.

Kansas City logo style made use of for advertising and marketing and a tag style for Vintage Case features an antiquated font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be much older cases. For this brand design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be utilized for every thing from a web page to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different point in time.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Kansas City, design include an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs considering that it seems that virtually every dental professional includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the same way dentists do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably include an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really love doing dentistry business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family members nonprofit, the logo includes 4 characters startled in height to represent a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to explain exactly how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If people have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that describes itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo design produced for a Kansas City hair design workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design that related a spirit of contentment and connection for their new hair studio. I created a design that did not go the obvious course of creating simply a stylized orchid but alternatively created a business logo that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated in to the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the logo design along with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is usually the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead placed the importance on the feeling that they really wanted to forecast to their clients.

Arabian steed logo style developed for a steed cattle ranch that concentrates on breeding Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a one-of-a-kind custom logo design styled to epitomize the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of horses. With a different head shape and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the most immediately recognizable equine breeds in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Kansas City restaurant logo design a small restaurant, style contains a modified script typeface which hovers over a team of luxuriant lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo design a small restaurant, design contains a modified manuscript font style which floats above a group of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software program designer the layout attributes and also iconic Kansas City element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and disk management. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a connection in between the software and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it represented something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the substance supporting a logo design is just as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

Develop logo design produced for a Kansas Cityindoor designer, style function a series of red circles that intersect and change the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Kansas City interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a professional who prepares, researches, coordinates, and manages such projects. Interior design is a diverse profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, location evaluations, programming, research study, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Kansas City, the personalities for letter V and also A in center of the word progressed have been changed to connect straight right into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Kansas City logo design assignment was completed for a leadership consultant that enables business professionals to develop into more efficient at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A Kansas City business logo style including an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a place to sell their used products to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Kansas City logo design with a graphic that garners the interest of traffic and sends an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Kansas City company logo style has a field incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo design wasn’t really produced for an Kansas City regional farm it was in reality devised for an investments broker, and this particular creative logo was one of a handful of which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to develop a image that projected assurance, success, and opulence.

Kansas City Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo layout feature for externally dealing with arrow as well as the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design that they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the freedom to explore any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye without realizing where the target is. Thankfully, in this instance, I nailed a bullseye with the first try.

Logo design developed for making use of an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script font that is reminiscent of a well-known Kansas City sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked directly with the owner to produce a business logo that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
