Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Designing a brand identity or a business logo that is both memorable and expresses the story of who you are or what you do is a significant endeavor. The difficulty is to come up with a design concept which is simple enough to be understood at a glance and transmits enough relevant information that it can articulate who you are. However no logo can absolutely tell your story or summarize your business, and travelling down that path frequently makes for a brand identity design that performs neither. However, in skillful hands, it is possible to strike a balance between both and design a brand identity that both informs and emotes and reaching that sweet spot is what every business should hope for from their logo designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am a free lance branding professional. For over 20 years I ‘ve been designing unforgettable logos and brand identity designs that tell stories and resonate with customers. But don’t take my word for it, check out my brand portfolio and discover for yourself. I don’t claim to be the greatest logo designer in the world, but, I do know what I am actually doing and my clients tend to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often said with such fervor by people working in the branding industry, that one ought to question why so many people in branding firms despise logos as much as they seem to. It is quite true that your logo is not your brand, however what does that make a brand that has no logo? One thing is quite certain, it guarantees that a brand with no logo will be faceless and easily forgotten.

Without a visual identity, a business’s brand is simply nothing more than a fading memory because consumers would have nothing to anchor their experiences too.

Some compare a business’s logo to a smile or a handshake which is slightly accurate, however it’s also far more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also serves as the cornerstone of a company’s brand image. A logo serves as an anchor since the entire brand experience is secured to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, because a cornerstone is the first stone placed when building the foundation of the structure above it, and once laid it will be the reference point for every building block that comes after it. A logo functions in the same way, it is a foundational building block that supports the business it represents, and it continuously serves as a defining reference point that guides a brand as it develops.

ImageCo is a brand identity business and our objective is to aid our customers lay that cornerstone as well as drop that anchor. We help companies look well established, more polished, and more experienced. This ensures that our clients will always be considered, and are not only deserving of a seat at the table, but look like they should be seated at the head of that table.

Mehlville LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping small business owners grow memorable brands. We’ve performed branding work for ranchers, educational institutions, heart surgeons, party planners, restaurants, retail stores, and virtually every other kind of business you can think of. What makes us different compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every design as though it will be used as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first strategy our brand identity designs can, and have been employed in everything from garment labels to billboards. Our sign first approach ensures that our logo designs are equally reliable whether they are used in TV commercials or website applications, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and always remembered regardless of scale or use.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference which really sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you might possibly have stumbled upon online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are hired to do, we do in-house. Irrespective of the kind of project we take on, brand identity design, web page, trade show exhibition, or retail sign, we do not, and never will contract out our client’s work to companies based outside the USA. When you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that marks up the price of your design project and dictates the conditions of how you and I conduct business.

QUALITIES OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

Every new Mehlville organization understands that they require a logo, yet few start ups thoroughly realize the key role their logo can make in their financial success, or the reason that one business logo works better than another. A logo has an instant and sustaining effect on the prosperity of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, go with the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the life of a company.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Mehlville businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t need deliberation, they can be comprehended in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo design will be legible and just as emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the product or company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be enduring and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It’s a verb as well as a noun, it is an identifying mark as well as the process of noting something to make sure that it could be identified, its foundation comes from the mark branded onto animals. These days a brand signifies basically anything with a motive, regardless if it be revenue or politics, a brand is an inherent aspect of specifying the value of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s attractive sister, they are all from the same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest directed at a specific audience, it’s objective is to develop an image that the audience will likely connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing and also identity design. When someone states the brand names Ferrari or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a vehicle with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, elegance, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why individuals purchase most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the origin of a lot of branding agencies you’ll discover that they are frequently rebranded advertising agencies. When a person claims they are in advertising and marketing lots of people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or listened to become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that focuses on a kind of visual design that helps shape the public image of a firm, a product or a business. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, and collateral material such as business cards, stationery, and also pamphlets. Some identity designers also build web sites and user interfaces. The necessary duty of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues and an emotional tone with the goal of affecting actions, results and perceptions.

select logos & signs

Retro logo layout of a bike created for a Mehlville coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually opening up in an older section of town and wished to project a vintage atmosphere without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I accomplished the two jobs via designing a trademark design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a enduring business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria designed for Mehlville clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that investigates the triggers and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that works with the laboratory assessment of samplings of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the only instance I recall where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves very literally, but it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more interesting, more attention grabbing and much more meaningful.

logo style with a leaping eco-friendly frog created for a household fun facility in Mehlville.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental offices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the company features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to incorporate a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a more lively high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo featuring a group of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - created for Mehlville travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but rather project emotional experiences through the photos they record. The idea behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of good photographers in that they often tell entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be communicated with just words. I made an effort to do something comparable to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Mehlville logo but also to illustrate the depth in her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Mehlville logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of business logo design projects that I take on I honestly savor and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A however my client, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy seriously loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family did not share his scorn for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge all of them to share it with friends and family as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get honest opinions on the value of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logos are a strange creature in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire a professional to create their business logo understand how essential a logo is for their company so they are way more invested in the final result. Every logo project has it’s portion of hurdles, but the greatest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, layout for Mehlville book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender segment of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most vital part of a printed book because it is in most cases the very first thing a person sees in the book store. Concerning a publisher, it’s the most ideal opportunity they will ever have to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches changed to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems like that in many occurrences 1 of the aspects consumers often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small fledgling commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and while I’m not sure it really “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to conferring a spirit of air travel and it was definitely a success.

Mehlville logo style made use of for advertising and a label design for Vintage Instance features an archaic typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that appeared to be much older cases. For this custom logo concept I attempted to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different generation.

Logo developed for an orthodontist in Mehlville, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can easily be one of the most difficult logo projects considering that it appears that almost every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I actually love doing dental logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a concept that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was evident was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo created for a household not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 characters startled in height to stand for a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wishes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to describe specifically how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that illustrates itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a Mehlville hair style workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a company logo that related a sense of contentment and connection for their new hair salon. I created a concept which didn’t go the obvious direction of making merely a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a logo design that suggested a flower in the pattern of a swirl featured into the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the concept along with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is in most cases the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the importance on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their customers.

Arabian equine logo layout produced for a horse ranch that concentrates on reproducing Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo crafted a distinct custom logo concept styled to exemplify the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of horses. With a distinctive head form and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the highly quite easily recognizable equine breeds in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Mehlville restaurant logo layout a small dining establishment, design consists of a changed manuscript typeface which floats above a team of luxuriant lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo style a little dining establishment, style includes a changed script font which hovers above a team of luxuriant lines and dots.

Logo design for a software program designer the layout attributes and also famous Mehlville element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive managing. The kernel unites the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it represented something to the owner of the company and in many cases the significance behind a logo is equally as important as how it brands the enterprise it represents.

Develop logo layout developed for a Mehlvilleindoor developer, style function a collection of red circles that converge as well as replace the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Mehlville interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a professional who plans, explores, coordinates, and oversees such ventures. Interior design is a diverse profession that consists of conceptual development, space planning, location assessments, programming, analysis, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and execution of the design.

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Mehlville, the characters for letter V as well as A in center of words progressed have actually been changed to connect directly right into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Mehlville logo design job was carried out for a management specialist that assists business leaders to become more efficient at handling people, expectations, and productivity.

A Mehlville business logo style featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly recognized the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a spot to market their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Mehlville logo design design along with an image which captures the interest of traffic and sends an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ farms, this Mehlville company logo style has actually an area integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem idea wasn’t actually developed for an Mehlville regional farm it was in reality designed for a products broker, and this creative logo was one of many which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to make an identity that projects self-confidence, effectiveness, and luxury.

Mehlville Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo design feature for outwardly facing arrowhead and the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design that they would like, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the flexibility to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without understanding where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this particular case, I nailed a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo made for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript typeface that is similar to a popular Mehlville sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed loads of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great undertaking in which I worked closely with the proprietor to design a logo design which worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
