POINTERS ON IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design firm presents a money back guarantee try to remember that they can’t refund the amount of time you commit which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but in the end a design agency can only be determined by the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t contain actual samples chances are they won’t be able to deliver a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be understood and remembered, and it’s purpose is to mirror your personal vision for your organization. If a logo designer isn’t focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Summit LOGO DESIGN

For over 20 years ImageCo has been helping small business owners develop unforgettable brands. We have undertaken branding work for ranchers, educational institutions, heart surgeons, party planners, coffee roasters, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business concern you can imagine. What makes us different compared to traditional designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every design as though it will be utilized as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first technique our identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from garment labels to billboards. Our sign first approach insures that our logo designs are just as successful whether they are used in television commercials or web headers, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and remembered no matter of scale or function.

American Made ★ Design

Something that really sets ImageCo apart from other design companies that you might have stumbled upon in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are retained to perform, we do ourselves. Irrespective of the kind of project we undertake, logo, website, trade show booth, or retail sign, we do not, and never will contract out our customer’s projects to contractors based outside the United States. Whenever you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the cost of your design project and dictates the conditions of how we conduct business.

ASPECTS OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Summit entrepreneur understands that they probably need a logo, but few new business owners thoroughly grasp the crucial role their company logo will play in their success, or the reason that one logo functions better than another. A business logo has a critical and lasting impact on the viability of a company, choose the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the longevity of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Summit businesses succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these 5 traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t need contemplation, they can be understood in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to retail signs a scalable logo design will stay legible and equally emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos which operate on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the item or business they brand.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be timeless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the act of noting something so that it can be recognized, its origin originates from the brand branded onto livestock. Nowadays a brand indicates pretty much anything with a motive, regardless if it be earnings or government agencies, a brand is an innate aspect of defining the value of something in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s attractive sister, they are both from the very same family, the difference being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest targeted at a target audience, it’s objective is to develop an image that the audience will connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person mentions the brand names Lamborghini or Mustang what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, beauty, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why individuals buy most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you reflect on the origin of many branding companies you’ll find that they are frequently re-branded marketing agencies. When a person states they are in advertising and marketing most people will likely have an idea about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or listened to are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a graphic designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design that helps shape the public image of a business, a product or a business. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, and collateral products such as cards, stationery, as well as brochures. Some identity designers also develop sites as well as user interfaces. The crucial duty of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the goal of affecting activities, outcomes as well as perceptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo style of a bicycle developed for a Summit coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually launching in an old section of the community and wished to project a vintage feel without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled both of these tasks by designing a trademark design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide as well as bacteria made for Summit medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which analyzes the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that works with the clinical evaluation of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the sole instance I recall where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Generally I try not to be overly literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it serves rather literally, but it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more attention grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo style with a jumping environment-friendly frog designed for a family fun facility in Summit.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dentists, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a group of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Summit traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche area because travel photographers tend not to shoot places or things but instead communicate emotional experiences through the photos they record. The thought behind this logo concept was to use negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of almost all professional photographers in that they oftentimes share whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with mere words. I made an effort to do something very similar to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Summit logo but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Summit logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of business logo design jobs that I take on I genuinely relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A however my client, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man seriously despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his scorn for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to share it with colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get neutral judgements on the worthiness of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family and they really loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire a professional to create their business logo recognize how essential a logo is for their company so they are way more invested in the end result. Every logo job possesses it’s portion of hurdles, but the greatest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, design for Summit publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender parcel of real estate to work with, but it is the most important part of a printed book because it is often the primary thing a person views in the book shop. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will ever have to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it seems that in many occurrences 1 of the things consumers usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young new venture commuter/shuttle airline located in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a sense of airline flight and it was surely a winner.

Summit logo style utilized for marketing as well as a label style for Vintage Case includes an antiquated font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for music instruments, which looked to be vintage cases. For this business logo design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old style feel to it and could be used for anything from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Summit, design include an arc with lines converging via it to indicate metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental business logos can easily be one of the most difficult logo design jobs due to the fact that it appears that every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would most likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care profession.

I actually love doing dentist logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a concept that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo features 4 characters surprised in height to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the people residing in his community. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to describe precisely how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If you have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that describes itself will never have the chance to be understood.

Logo style developed for a Summit hair layout studio featuring a script font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a logo that communicated a sense of simplicity and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious course of crafting merely a stylized orchid but rather crafted a company logo that suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is oftentimes the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead put the focus on the perception that they wanted to forecast to their customers.

Arabian equine logo design created for a steed cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed an original company logo concept tailored to embody the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of horses. By having an unique head form and higher tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most quite easily identifiable equine types in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Summit restaurant logo design a small restaurant, design consists of a customized script font style which floats over a team of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a small dining establishment, design consists of a changed manuscript font which floats over a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo layout for a software program developer the style functions and also renowned Summit component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and hard drive operations. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it symbolized something to the business owner of the business and in quite a few cases the substance behind a company logo is just as important as how it serves the organization it represents.

Progress logo layout produced for a Summitinterior designer, layout attribute a collection of red circles that intersect as well as change the letter O in the middle of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Summit interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a person who organizes, researches, collaborates, and manages such tasks. Interior design is a diverse occupation that consists of conceptual development, space planning, site evaluations, programming, research, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Summit, the personalities for letter V as well as A in middle of words advanced have been modified to tie straight right into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Summit logo design assignment was performed for a leadership expert that aids business professionals to become more successful at handling people, expectations, and productivity.

A Summit business logo style featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly realized the market was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a spot to market their used equipment to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Summit logo design design utilizing an illustration which garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.

Logo layout MQ ranches, this Summit company logo design has a field included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo idea wasn’t really created for an Summit regional farm it was in reality devised for a products broker, and this brand was one of a handful of which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was to make a brand mark that projected confidence, success, and affluence.

Summit Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo design attribute for outwardly facing arrow and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the flexibility to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of realizing where the target is. Luckily, in this case, I hit a bullseye with the very first shot.

Logo design created for the use of an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script typeface that is similar to a famous Summit sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted dozens of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked directly with the proprietor to produce a logo which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
