Harlem Logo Design

Each and every new Harlem venture realizes that they are in need of a logo, but few entrepreneurs fully understand the key role their business logo will take in their financial success, or precisely why one logo design functions more effectively than another. A logo has a critical and sustaining impact on the financial success of a business, choose the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, choose the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a business. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Harlem businesses prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require contemplation, they can be comprehended in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable logo will stay legible and equally emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo must be lasting and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

Retro logo style of a bike created for a Harlem coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and bistro were actually opening in an older section of the community and hoped to cast a retro atmosphere without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved the two jobs via creating a custom logo concept that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide and bacteria developed for Harlem medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which examines the root causes and consequences of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare that deals with the laboratory evaluation of samplings of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the sole instance I remember where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, but it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more appealing, more interest grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo style with a jumping eco-friendly frog designed for a family enjoyable center in Harlem.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dentists, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a much more dynamic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a flock of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - made for Harlem travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I think it is a niche profession because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead communicate emotional journeys through the images they record. The idea behind this logo composition was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they frequently share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with just words. I tried to do something very similar to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Harlem logo design but also to reveal the depth in her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Harlem logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I honestly relish and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but my client, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man seriously disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family didn’t share his hatred for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage all of them to share it with friends and family as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get honest assessments on the merit of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a strange animal in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their logo understand how vital a logo design is for their business so they are much more invested in the outcome. Every logo design project has it’s share of difficulties, however the most significant challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, design for Harlem book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped parcel of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most essential part of a published book given that it is ordinarily the very first thing a person views in the bookstore. Regarding a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity that they will ever have to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with the bars modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart nevertheless it seems that in many cases 1 of the things individuals usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small startup commuter/shuttle airline located in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a sense of air travel and it was definitely a winner.

Harlem logo style used for advertising and marketing and also a tag style for Vintage Situation features an old-fashioned font style layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be much older cases. For this logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that had a fluid old style feel to it and could be utilized for every thing from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different generation.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Harlem, style consist of an arc with lines converging through it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs due to the fact that it seems that every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company advertising, if restaurants approached their advertising in the very same way dental practices do every one of their company logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I actually love doing dentist business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and eventually I created a layout that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a household not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 characters startled in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to explain specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If you have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a hair design studio including a script font a hummingbird and an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo which conveyed a sense of contentment and class for their new hair salon. I created a concept which did not go the obvious path of designing just a stylized orchid but rather delivered a logo that implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird floating above the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is in most cases the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the emphasis on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo style developed for an equine cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo style for a software application programmer the layout attributes and renowned component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and hard drive operations. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a connection in between the software program and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the meaning behind a company logo is just as important as how it serves the company it represents.

Develop logo design created for a Harlem indoor developer, style attribute a series of red circles that converge as well as change the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

This particular Harlem logo design job was completed for a leadership coach that aids business professionals to become more successful at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A logo layout including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly understood the market was ready for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a spot to market their used products to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Harlem logo design dsign using an image that pulls in the interest of traffic and projects an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo layout has a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo concept wasn’t actually produced for an Harlem area farm it was really developed for an investments broker, and this particular brand was one of a handful of that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was to generate a brand mark that projected confidence, effectiveness, and wealth.
Logo design developed for the use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font that is evocative a popular sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted loads of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking where I worked closely with the proprietor to produce a business logo that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
