Ithaca Logo Design

Each and every new Ithaca business knows they are in need of a logo, but few new business owners thoroughly comprehend the vital role their logo design can take in their success, or exactly why one logo design functions better than another. A company logo has an instant and long-term impact on the growth of a company, select the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life span of an organization. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Ithaca companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand scrutiny, they can be grasped in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo design will remain legible and just as emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo needs to be ageless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

Retro logo design of a bicycle produced for a Ithaca coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee shop were opening in an older part of the town and wanted to cast a vintage feel without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished each of the tasks by means of creating a custom logo design that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo design with a microscopic lense slide as well as germs created for Ithaca clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which analyzes the triggers and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine that deals with the clinical examination of samplings of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the sole instance I recall in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo layout with a jumping green frog designed for a family members fun facility in Ithaca.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental offices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a couple springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a much more dynamic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, and a tree - created for Ithaca travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead project emotional experiences by means of the pictures they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they often share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be revealed with just words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Ithaca logo but also to show the depth of her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Ithaca logo style with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design projects that I take on I really savor and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A however the client, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members didn’t share his contempt for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge all of them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get honest viewpoints on the worthiness of a design concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they adored the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to create their business logo recognize how essential a logo is for their company so they are way more invested in the final result. Every logo design job possesses it’s portion of obstacles, however the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, layout for Ithaca publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin parcel of real estate to work with, however it is the most critical part of a printed book given that it is often the initial thing a person views in the bookstore. With respect to a publisher, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will ever have to advertise their product and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it seems that in many instances 1 of the things people often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest startup commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a good sense of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a winner.

Ithaca logo style used for marketing and a label layout for Vintage Instance features an archaic font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be much older cases. For this brand concept I tried to come up with a logo that had a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different point in time.

Logo developed for an orthodontist in Ithaca, design consist of an arc with lines converging with it to imply metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging and difficult logo projects due to the fact that it seems that almost every dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business marketing, if restaurants approached their advertising in the very same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really enjoy doing dental logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and subsequently I created a design that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design created for a family members nonprofit, the logo includes 4 characters surprised in height to represent a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to explain precisely how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If you have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that explains itself will never have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo layout produced for a hair style workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a company logo that projected an atmosphere of relaxation and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a design which didn’t go the obvious course of designing just a stylized orchid but instead crafted a company logo that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is frequently the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately laid the focus on the emotion that they wanted to transmit to their patrons.

Arabian equine logo design developed for a steed cattle ranch that concentrates on breeding Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed a unique brand concept tailored to manifest the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of horses. With an unique head form and very high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most quite easily identifiable horse breeds in the world.

Las Cafe logo style a tiny dining establishment, design includes a modified manuscript font style which floats above a group of elaborate lines as well as dots.

Logo style for a software application programmer the design functions as well as legendary element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a bridge in between the software and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the substance supporting a logo design is just as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

A logo style including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly recognized the market was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a place to sell their used goods to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Ithaca business logo dsign along with a graphic which grabs the attention of traffic and sends an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo design MQ ranches, this logo design has actually a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t actually developed for an Ithaca area farm it was actually created for an investments broker, and this brand was one of a handful of that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was actually to design a image that projects trust, success, and wealth.
Logo developed for the use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script typeface that is similar to a popular sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking where I worked closely with the owner to create a logo which worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
