Morrisania Logo Design

Nearly every new Morrisania business understands that they are in need of a logo, yet few entrepreneurs thoroughly recognize the essential role their logo design can play in their financial success, or precisely why one logo design performs far better than another. A business logo has an instant and long term impact on the success of a business, pick the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a business. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Morrisania companies prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these five traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not demand consideration, they can be understood in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo design will be legible and just as emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design needs to be timeless and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from today.

Retro logo style of a bike developed for a Morrisania coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and bistro were opening up in an older part of the area and hoped to project a vintage tone without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved both of these jobs by means of creating a business logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide as well as bacteria created for Morrisania medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that investigates the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine that deals with the clinical assessment of specimens of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it serves quite literally, however it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more appealing, more attention grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping eco-friendly frog designed for a household enjoyable center in Morrisania.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental offices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the business has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Morrisania travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession because travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but rather communicate emotional experiences through the images they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they often share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with just words. I attempted to do something comparable to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Morrisania logo design but also to reveal the depth in her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Morrisania logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I seriously enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A but my client, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy really loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family members didn’t share his hatred for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I urge them to share it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get objective opinions on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they really loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logo designs are a strange creature in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire a professional to create their logo understand how essential a logo design is for their organization so they are way more invested in the end result. Every logo project has it’s portion of hurdles, however the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, design for Morrisania book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped segment of real estate to work with, but it really is the most vital part of a published book considering that it is often the primary thing a person sees in the book store. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever get to spotlight their label and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go nevertheless it looks like that in many cases 1 of the items people usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller new venture commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and while I’m not sure it really “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to conferring a sense of flight and it was definitely a victory.

Morrisania logo layout made use of for advertising as well as a tag design for Vintage Instance includes an old-fashioned typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, which appeared to be vintage cases. For this business logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be utilized for everything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another point in time.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Morrisania, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to indicate steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logo designs can be one of the most difficult logo design projects because it seems that every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dental professionals do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I actually love doing dental business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family members nonprofit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the families in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wants to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to explain specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that explains itself will never have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo layout created for a hair style studio including a manuscript font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo which conveyed an atmosphere of contentment and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a design that didn’t go the obvious route of creating simply a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a business logo which implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird floating above the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is usually the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the emphasis on the feeling that they wanted to project to their patrons.

Logo style for a software designer the layout functions and also renowned element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk management. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it represented something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the meaning supporting a logo is just as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

A logo design including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly towards the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly recognized the market was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a location to sell their pre-owned items to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Morrisania logo design dsign utilizing a graphic that grabs the attention of vehicles and sends an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo style has actually a field integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo idea wasn’t really developed for an Morrisania regional farm it was really designed for a products broker, and this particular logo design was one of a handful of that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was really to create a brand mark that projects confidence, effectiveness, and prosperity.
Logo design designed for making use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is similar to a renowned sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted dozens of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked closely with the proprietor to produce a logo design that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
