Selden Logo Design

Nearly every new Selden venture understands that they require a logo, however few entrepreneurs fully grasp the crucial role their logo can make in their financial success, or exactly why one business logo works better than another. A logo design has an instant and long term impact on the growth of a business, pick the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the longevity of a company. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Selden companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require scrutiny, they can be grasped in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo will remain legible and equally emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

Retro logo layout of a bike produced for a Selden coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and coffee bar were launching in an old part of the city and wished to cast a nostalgic tone without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I achieved each of the jobs by means of designing a company logo design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a enduring business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide and also bacteria designed for Selden clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which investigates the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that deals with the laboratory assessment of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the sole instance I recall where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Typically I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents rather literally, however it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more appealing, more focus grabbing and a lot more meaningful.

logo design with a jumping green frog developed for a family members fun facility in Selden.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dentists, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to incorporate a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was turned into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, and a tree - created for Selden travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead project emotional journeys by means of the images they record. The idea behind this logo concept was to make use of negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be conveyed with just words. I made an effort to do something very similar to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Selden logo but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Selden logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design jobs that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however the client, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This guy really loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members didn’t share his contempt for this particular breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to talk about it with colleagues and family members as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get objective point of views on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Custom logo designs are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to design their business logo comprehend how essential a logo design is for their company so they are much more vested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s allotment of hurdles, but the largest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Selden book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped parcel of real estate to work with, however it really is the most vital part of a printed book considering that it is usually the very first thing a person sees in the bookstore. With regard to a publisher, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will likely ever get to publicize their label and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go but it seems like that in many cases one of the aspects folks usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small start-up commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a good sense of air travel and it was surely a victory.

Selden logo design used for advertising and also a tag design for Vintage Case includes an old-fashioned typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be much older cases. For this logo design I tried to come up with a logo that had a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could easily be used for every thing from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different point in time.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Selden, style include an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logos can be one of the most difficult logo projects considering that it seems that every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dentists do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would most likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding an image of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really love doing dentist business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family not-for-profit, the logo features 4 personalities startled in elevation to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his community. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wants to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo that communicated that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to illustrate how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If you have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that illustrates itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo design created for a hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird as well as an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a company logo which conveyed a spirit of tranquility and class for their new hair salon. I created a design which didn’t go the obvious route of making simply a stylized orchid but alternatively created a company logo that suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the image itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is more often than not the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the emphasis on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their customers.

Logo layout for a software designer the layout attributes and famous element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and drive managing. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a connection in between the software program and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the symbolism behind a logo is just as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

A logo design featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a place to sell off their used goods to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Selden business logo dsign utilizing a graphic that captures the attention of vehicles and projects an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo design MQ ranches, this logo style has an area incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand concept wasn’t really designed for an Selden regional farm it was actually developed for an investments broker, and this business logo was one of a handful of that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to design a graphic that projects self-confidence, success, and prosperity.
Logo developed for making use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script font that is reminiscent of a popular sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed loads of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great undertaking where I worked directly with the business owner to create a business logo that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
