Utica, New York Logo Design

Every new Utica organization understands that they require a logo, but few new business owners entirely realize the pivotal role their business logo will play in their becoming successful, or why one logo functions better than another. A logo has an immediate and lasting influence on the growth of a company, choose the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life span of a company.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Utica, New York companies succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these 5 traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not demand consideration, they can be comprehended in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to movie screens a scalable logo design will be legible and just as emotive at virtually any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo should be ageless and should feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from today.
Retro logo design of a bicycle created for a Utica, New York coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and cafe were actually opening up in an older part of town and wished to visualize an old-fashioned atmosphere without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished both of these tasks by means of creating a custom logo concept that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria designed for Utica, New York clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that analyzes the triggers and effects of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare that works with the laboratory examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the sole instance I remember where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Generally I try not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, yet it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more appealing, more focus grabbing and more meaningful.

logo style with a leaping eco-friendly frog made for a family fun facility in Utica, New York.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental practices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to feature a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more lively high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo featuring a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for Utica, New York traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture places or things but rather communicate emotional journeys by means of the images they record. The idea behind this logo concept was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they often convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with just words. I attempted to do something comparable to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Utica logo design but also to reveal the depth of her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Utica logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design jobs that I take on I seriously relish and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A however the client, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy truly disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family did not share his hatred for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage all of them to talk about it with colleagues and family as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get neutral assessments on the value of a design. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logos are a strange animal in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to create their logo design comprehend how vital a logo is for their business so they are much more vested in the final result. Every logo design job has it’s share of obstacles, however the most significant obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, layout for Utica, New York book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin segment of real estate to work with, however it is the most essential part of a printed book since it is usually the initial thing a person views in the book store. For a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will ever have to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars changed to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart yet it seems like that in many instances one of the traits individuals usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest fledgling commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a sense of air travel and it was definitely a success.

Utica logo style used for marketing and also a tag layout for Vintage Situation features an old-fashioned font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for musical instruments, which seemed to be vintage cases. For this brand design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be used for every thing from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Utica, New York, design include an arc with lines converging via it to suggest steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can be one of the most challenging logo projects because it seems that virtually every dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to business branding, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental practices do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I really love doing dentist logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a household not-for-profit, the logo features 4 characters startled in elevation to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to summarize exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that describes itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo design produced for a hair design studio including a script font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a business logo which conveyed an atmosphere of ease and class for their new hair salon. I created a design that did not go the obvious course of crafting just a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a business logo which suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is in most cases the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately put the attention on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their patrons.

Logo style for a software application developer the style features and iconic component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and disk management. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it meant something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the meaning supporting a business logo is equally as important as how it serves the organization it represents.

A logo style featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly understood the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a spot to market their pre-owned items to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Utica logo dsign along with an illustration that captures the attention of vehicles and sends an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo style has a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem design wasn’t really designed for an Utica, New York regional farm it was in reality created for a commodities broker, and this logo design was one of a handful of which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to create an identity that projects trust, effectiveness, and affluence.

Utica Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo design function for ostensibly dealing with arrow and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the freedom to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular case, I nailed a bullseye with the first go.

Logo made for using an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is reminiscent of a well-known sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created loads of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked directly with the business owner to design a business logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
