Winston-Salem, North Carolina Logo Design

Every new Winston-Salem company knows they are in need of a logo, however few new business owners fully grasp the pivotal role their company logo can make in their financial success, or exactly why one logo design functions better than another. A logo has a critical and long term influence on the prosperity of a company, pick the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the longevity of a company.

The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Winston-Salem, North Carolina companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand contemplation, they can be grasped in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable logo will stay legible and equally emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design needs to be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from today.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo design of a bike created for a Winston-Salem, North Carolina coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee shop were opening up in an old part of the area and hoped to project a retro feel without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I achieved the two jobs by developing a custom logo design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide and germs created for Winston-Salem, North Carolina medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that investigates the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare that works with the clinical assessment of samples of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the sole instance I remember in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, yet it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping eco-friendly frog made for a household fun center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to integrate a couple springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo featuring a group of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and a tree - designed for Winston-Salem, North Carolina travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession because travel photographers tend not to capture locations or things but instead project emotional journeys through the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of most good photographers in that they oftentimes convey entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be communicated with mere words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Winston-Salem logo but also to illustrate the depth of her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Winston-Salem logo style with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of custom logo design projects that I take on I really relish and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A but my customer, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man genuinely hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his hatred for this specific variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage all of them to discuss it with friends and family members as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get objective point of views on the worthiness of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his whole family and they really liked the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logos are a strange animal in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to create their business logo realize how vital a logo design is for their company so they are way more vested in the end result. Every logo design job possesses it’s share of hurdles, however the greatest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Winston-Salem, North Carolina publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender segment of real estate to work with, however it is the most essential part of a published book because it is ordinarily the very first thing a person sees in the book shop. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity they will ever get to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems like that in many cases one of the traits individuals usually tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to confering a good sense of flight and it was undoubtedly a winner.

Winston-Salem logo style utilized for advertising and marketing and also a label style for Vintage Situation includes an old font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in all new cases for music instruments, that looked to be antique cases. For this logo design I tried to come up with a logo that offered a fluid retro feel to it and could be used for anything from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different generation.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, design include an arc with lines converging via it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can be one of the most challenging logo jobs due to the fact that it seems that every dental professional features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business marketing, if restaurants approached their branding in the exact same way dental practices do every one of their logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care profession.

I really really love doing dentist business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and inevitably I created a concept that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family members nonprofit, the logo features 4 characters startled in elevation to represent a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the families in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to describe exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that describes itself will never have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a hair design workshop including a script font a hummingbird as well as an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a company logo which related a spirit of calmness and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design that did not go the obvious route of crafting merely a stylized orchid but instead created a logo that suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl blended into the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is generally the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the focus on the feeling that they wanted to forecast to their customers.

Las Cafe logo style a little restaurant, style includes a changed script font which floats above a team of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Logo layout for a software designer the design features and legendary element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and drive operations. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it represented something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the symbolism supporting a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the company it represents.

A logo style including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly understood the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a location to sell their previously owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Winston-Salem logo dsign utilizing an image that seizes the attention of vehicles and sends an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo layout has actually a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo design wasn’t really created for an Winston-Salem, North Carolina area farm it was actually created for a commodities broker, and this logo design was one of a handful of that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was really to design a graphic that projects self-assurance, success, and luxury.

Winston-Salem Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo style function for outwardly encountering arrowhead as well as the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the freedom to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye without recognizing where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular instance, I struck a bullseye with the first try.

Logo design made for the use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is evocative a famous sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created dozens of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking where I worked closely with the business owner to design a logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
