TIPS FOR IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design firm presents a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they can not refund the amount of time you commit which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some designers talk a good game but inevitably a design firm can only be judged by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio does not feature real life samples chances are they won’t be able to produce a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be recognized and be unforgettable, and it’s purpose is to mirror your personal vision for your business. If a logo designer isn’t focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are really focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Athens LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping businesses of all kinds develop memorable brands. We’ve performed branding work for farmers, educational institutions, diamond miners, party planners, cafes, retail stores, and practically every other kind of business you can think of. What makes us unique compared to our competitors is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every brand identity project as though it will be used as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first method our designs can, and have been used in everything from clothing labels to billboards. Our sign first method guarantees that our logo designs are equally effective whether they are used in TV commercials or website apps, they are consistently recognizable, understood, and remembered regardless of size or use.

American Made ★ Design

Something which really sets ImageCo apart from many of the design companies that you may have encountered in Google’s search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are contracted to do, we do in-house. Regardless of the type of project we accept, logo, web page, trade show display, or retail sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to 3rd parties located outside the United States. Whenever you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the cost of your project and dictates the conditions of how you and I conduct business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Athens entrepreneur knows they require a logo, yet few start-ups entirely understand the pivotal role their business logo will play in their financial success, or precisely why one business logo functions more effectively than another. A business logo has an immediate and long term impact on the financial success of a business, pick the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life of an organization. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Athens businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t need consideration, they can be understood in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from label to billboards a scalable logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or organization they brand.
  5. Relevance: a logo should be enduring and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb as well as a noun, it is an identifying mark as well as the act of denoting something to make sure that it could be recognized, its genesis originates from the mark burned onto animals. Nowadays a brand represents practically anything with an intention, regardless of whether it be revenue or political parties, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of specifying the worth of a specific thing in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s sexy cousin, they are both from the same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest targeted at a target audience, it’s objective is to produce a mental image that the audience will likely identify with.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When somebody says the brand names Ferrari or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and brand image is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why people buy most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the beginning of the majority of branding agencies you’ll discover that they are quite often rebranded advertising and marketing firms. When someone claims they are in marketing lots of people will likely have an idea about what they do. But when someone says “I am in branding”… it simply seems more attractive, probably it’s since lots of people don’t fully understand what it means to be in branding so it comes off as mysterious and perhaps even sexy.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that describes the visual components of a product or business that affect perceptions. This primarily includes the name, the logo design, the packaging, the different colors used yet can additionally consist of sound, lights, texture, signs, really anything that can be seen, touched or heard become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that specializes in a type of visual design that helps form the perception of a firm, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, sign designs, product packaging, and also collateral products such as cards, stationery, and also brochures. Some visual designers also build sites and also software interfaces. The vital duty of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and a psychological tone with the objective of influencing actions, outcomes as well as understandings.

select signs/logos

Retro logo style of a bike created for a Athens coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and cafe were opening in an old part of the city and really wanted to cast an old-fashioned vibe without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled both jobs via developing a symbol concept that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria made for Athens medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that analyzes the root causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the branch of medicine that deals with the clinical examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I call to mind in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, however it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo design with a jumping green frog created for a family fun facility in Athens.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental practices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the company has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to incorporate a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design including a flock of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and a tree - developed for Athens traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector due to the fact that travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead project emotional experiences through the photos they record. The idea behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of almost all good photographers in that they oftentimes convey entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness which can’t be revealed with mere words. I attempted to do something similar to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Athens logo but also to reveal the depth to her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Athens logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of business logo design jobs that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A but the client, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man truly loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members didn’t share his hatred for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial opinions on the merit of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logo designs are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to design their logo understand how vital a logo design is for their business so they are way more invested in the end result. Every logo job possesses it’s share of difficulties, however the largest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Athens book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin segment of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most critical part of a printed book due to the fact that it is ordinarily the very first thing a person sees in the book shop. With respect to a publisher, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will ever get to publicize their label and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart but it seems like that in many instances one of the traits individuals often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small start-up commuter/shuttle airline based in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo design didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a feeling of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a success.

Athens logo style used for advertising and marketing and also a label design for Vintage Situation features an old font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be vintage cases. For this logo concept I attempted to come up with a logo that had a fluid retro feel to it and could be utilized for every thing from a web site to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Athens, style include an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects because it appears that almost every dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business marketing, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dental practices do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was evident was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design created for a household nonprofit, the logo design features 4 characters startled in height to represent a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the people residing in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to explain how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo layout created for a Athens hair style workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design which projected a sense of peace and class for their new hair studio. I created a concept that did not go the obvious direction of crafting simply a stylized orchid but instead created a logo design which implied a flower in the formation of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the logo design along with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is generally the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the focus on the feeling that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.

Arabian equine logo style created for a steed ranch that focuses on reproducing Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo crafted a unique business logo design fashioned to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of horses. With a different head shape and very high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most immediately recognizable horse breeds in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Athens Coffee shop logo style a little restaurant, design consists of a changed manuscript font which floats over a team of ornate lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a small dining establishment, design includes a customized script font style which floats over a team of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo layout for a software programmer the design functions and legendary Athens aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive management. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a connection between the software program and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it intimated something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the substance behind a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the business it stands for.

Evolve logo layout developed for a Athensinterior designer, style feature a series of red circles that converge and also change the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Athens interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who organizes, explores, collaborates, and oversees such tasks. Interior design is a multifaceted occupation that includes conceptual development, area planning, location assessments, programming, analysis, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and implementation of the design.

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Athens, the characters for letter V as well as A in center of words progressed have actually been modified to connect straight right into words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Athens logo design job was done for a management consultant that enables business leaders to become more effective at managing people, expectations, and profitability.

A Athens business logo layout including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly understood the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a location to sell off their secondhand products to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their Athens logo design with an image which pulls in the interest of vehicles and projects an image that invokes the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.

Logo design MQ ranches, this Athens company logo style has actually a field included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand concept wasn’t actually designed for an Athens area farm it was in reality created for a commodities broker, and this particular trademark was one of multiple which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was actually to generate an identity that projected assurance, effectiveness, and luxury.

Athens Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo layout feature for ostensibly encountering arrowhead and the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design that they preferred, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the opportunity to delve into any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where the target is. Luckily, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo developed for the use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript typeface that is reminiscent of a renowned Athens sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created dozens of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking where I worked directly with the business owner to create a logo which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
