Columbus, Ohio Logo Design

Each and every new Columbus company knows they are in need of a logo, however few new business owners fully realize the key role their company logo will play in their success, or why one business logo functions more effectively than another. A logo design has an instant and long term effect on the financial success of a company, go with the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life of a business.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Columbus, Ohio companies prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t demand scrutiny, they can be grasped in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable logo design will continue to be legible and equally emotive at any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the enterprise they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo style of a bike created for a Columbus, Ohio coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were opening up in an older section of town and hoped to visualize a retro atmosphere without appearing as boring or low energy. I achieved both of these jobs by means of developing a company logo concept that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and also bacteria developed for Columbus, Ohio medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that researches the causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the branch of medicine which deals with the laboratory evaluation of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the only instance I remember where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Generally I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents quite literally, however it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more appealing, more interest grabbing and more memorable.

logo style with a jumping environment-friendly frog developed for a family enjoyable center in Columbus, Ohio.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental experts, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a much more dynamic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design including a group of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and also a tree - created for Columbus, Ohio travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead convey emotional journeys by means of the pictures they record. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of most good photographers in that they frequently tell whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with mere words. I attempted to do something very similar to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Columbus logo but also to reveal the depth of her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Columbus logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design jobs that I take on I really savor and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however the customer, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man genuinely despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family members did not share his contempt for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage them to talk about it with colleagues and family members as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get impartial viewpoints on the worthiness of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they really loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to create their logo recognize how important a logo is for their organization so they are much more vested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s share of difficulties, but the most significant challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Columbus, Ohio publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin segment of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most crucial part of a printed book because it is usually the primary thing a person views in the book store. For a publisher, it’s the best opportunity they will ever get to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart yet it seems like that in many occurrences one of the things folks tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller fledgling commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to confering a good sense of air travel and it was undoubtedly a winner.

Columbus logo design made use of for advertising and marketing and a tag design for Vintage Case features an antiquated font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, which looked to be vintage cases. For this brand design I tried to come up with a logo that offered a fluid vintage feel to it and could be used for anything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different era.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Columbus, Ohio, design include an arc with lines intersecting via it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can be one of the most difficult logo jobs because it appears that almost every dental professional includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business branding, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I actually enjoy doing dental business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a layout that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a household not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 characters staggered in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be overly literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to illustrate how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If people have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that describes itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a hair design studio featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a company logo which conveyed a spirit of calmness and elegance for their new hair salon. I came up with a design which didn’t go the obvious direction of creating just a stylized orchid but alternatively crafted a business logo that implied an orchid in the formation of a swirl incorporated in to the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the logo design along with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is oftentimes the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead put the focus on the emotion that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Las Coffee shop logo style a small dining establishment, design includes a customized manuscript font which hovers above a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Logo layout for a software developer the layout functions and also legendary element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the significance behind a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the enterprise it stands for.

A logo style featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly knew the market was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a location to sell their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Columbus logo design dsign using an illustration that grabs the attention of traffic and projects an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo design has actually a field included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo design wasn’t really designed for an Columbus, Ohio area farm it was in reality devised for a commodities broker, and this particular creative logo was one of several that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to design a image that projected esteem, financial success, and luxury.

Columbus Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout attribute for outwardly facing arrow and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the freedom to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye without knowing where exactly the target is. Fortunately, in this particular instance, I struck a bullseye with the 1st go.

Logo created for making use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant manuscript font that is reminiscent of a renowned sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked directly with the owner to design a logo design which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
