TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design company presents a money back guarantee try to bear in mind that they can not refund the amount of time you invest which is eminently more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but in the end a design agency can only be evaluated from the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their design portfolio does not contain actual examples odds are they won’t be able to deliver a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be understood and remembered, and it’s goal is to mirror your personal vision for your company. If a designer is not focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how soon they will get paid.

Mentor LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping business owners develop memorable brands. We’ve performed brand design work for ranchers, educational institutions, heart surgeons, wedding singers, diners, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to our competitors is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as if it will be used as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first strategy our designs can, and have been utilized in everything from fashion labels to electrical signs. Our sign first method insures that our logo designs are equally reliable whether they are used in TV commercials or web headers, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and always remembered irrespective of scale or use.

American Made ★ Design

The thing which truly sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you may have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are enlisted to do, we perform in-house. Regardless of the kind of design project we take on, logo, website, trade show booth, or electric sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to contractors located outside the United States. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the cost of your project and imposes the terms of how you and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Mentor business realizes that they need a logo, yet few start ups fully understand the essential role their business logo will make in their becoming successful, or why one business logo works far better than another. A logo design has an instant and long-term influence on the financial success of a business, select the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the life of a company. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Mentor businesses succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t need deliberation, they can be grasped in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to retail signs a scalable logo will be legible and just as emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be enduring and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark and also the process of noting something so that it could be distinguished, its genesis originates from the brand branded onto livestock. These days a brand indicates pretty much anything with a motive, regardless of whether it be profit or politics, a brand is an inherent aspect of defining the worth of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s attractive cousin, they are each from the exact same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition targeted at a target market, it’s goal is to develop a mental image that the target market will relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person says the brand names Porsche or Corvette what we think about is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a vehicle with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and brand image is what makes individuals buy those brands. Brand image is why people get most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the history of most branding agencies you’ll find that they are often rebranded marketing and advertising agencies. When somebody claims they are in advertising and marketing most people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or heard are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a type of visual design which helps form the public image of a business, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, as well as collateral material such as business cards, stationery, and brochures. Some visual designers also design sites and software interfaces. The essential function of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and also an emotional tone with the objective of influencing actions, results and also assumptions.

Featured SIGNS & LOGOS

Retro logo layout of a bike developed for a Mentor coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were launching in an old part of the town and wanted to cast a nostalgic vibe without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved the two jobs via creating a sign design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo design with a microscopic lense slide as well as bacteria made for Mentor medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which investigates the root causes and effects of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which deals with the laboratory examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I call to mind where I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Typically I try not to be overly literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, yet it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more appealing, more attention grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping environment-friendly frog created for a household fun center in Mentor.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a couple springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a better lively high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a flock of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Mentor travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but rather convey emotional journeys through the images they record. The idea behind this logo concept was to make use of negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of almost all professional photographers in that they often share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be communicated with mere words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo by using the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Mentor logo but also to show the depth of her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Mentor logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design projects that I take on I truly savor and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A however my client, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy truly despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family didn’t share his contempt for this specific variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get unbiased judgements on the worthiness of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a strange animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to design their business logo comprehend how crucial a logo is for their company so they are way more vested in the outcome. Every logo design job has it’s portion of difficulties, but the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Mentor book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin slice of real estate to work with, however it really is the most essential part of a printed book considering that it is in most cases the primary thing a person views in the bookstore. For a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will ever have to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the people that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it seems that in many occurrences 1 of the traits folks usually tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young start-up commuter/shuttle airline company based in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a good sense of flight and it was surely a victory.

Mentor logo layout made use of for marketing and a label layout for Vintage Situation features an archaic typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be much older cases. For this logo design I sought to come up with a logo that offered a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be utilized for every thing from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different generation.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Mentor, layout include an arc with lines converging with it to indicate metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logos can be one of the most challenging logo design projects because it appears that almost every dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business advertising, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really enjoy doing dentist business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a family nonprofit, the logo design features 4 characters staggered in elevation to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the families in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to describe precisely how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that illustrates itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo style developed for a Mentor hair layout workshop featuring a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a business logo that conveyed a sense of peace and connection for their new hair studio. I created a concept which didn’t go the obvious path of designing just a stylized orchid but alternatively created a business logo that implied a flower in the formation of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the concept along with the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is oftentimes the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the main focus on the perception that they wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian steed logo design produced for a steed cattle ranch that concentrates on breeding Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a distinct organization logo design customized to manifest the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of horses. With a distinctive head shape and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the highly easily identifiable horse lineages in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Mentor Coffee shop logo style a tiny restaurant, design includes a customized script font style which hovers over a team of elaborate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo layout a little dining establishment, layout includes a customized script font which hovers above a team of luxuriant lines and dots.

Logo design for a software program programmer the design functions and also legendary Mentor element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk management. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge between the software program and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it represented something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the significance supporting a logo is equally as important as how it serves the enterprise it stands for.

Progress logo design developed for a Mentorinterior designer, layout feature a collection of red circles that intersect and also change the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Mentor interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who plans, investigates, coordinates, and oversees such ventures. Interior design is a diverse occupation that involves conceptual development, space planning, location examinations, programming, research, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Mentor, the personalities for letter V and A in middle of words advanced have been changed to connect straight into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Mentor logo design assignment was completed for a leadership coach that assists business leaders to develop into more efficient at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A Mentor business logo layout including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market was primed for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a spot to sell off their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Mentor logo design utilizing a graphic which garners the attention of vehicles and sends an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo design MQ farms, this Mentor company logo style has actually a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo design wasn’t actually designed for an Mentor regional farm it was really devised for a commodities broker, and this particular logo was one of several that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was actually to make a brand mark that projected trust, effectiveness, and wealth.

Mentor Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo layout attribute for ostensibly facing arrowhead as well as the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what type of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the liberty to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye without recognizing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this instance, I struck a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo design created for using a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is evocative a renowned Mentor sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created quite a lot of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked directly with the owner to create a business logo that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
