Oxford Logo Design

Virtually every new Oxford business realizes that they need a logo, however few new business owners entirely realize the vital role their company logo can take in their financial success, or precisely why one logo design performs more effectively than another. A logo design has an immediate and lasting influence on the growth of a company, go with the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the longevity of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Oxford businesses prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require deliberation, they can be comprehended in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable logo will be legible and just as emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the enterprise they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from today.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Oxford coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and cafe were opening in an older section of town and really wanted to project a retro tone without coming across as boring or low energy. I achieved both jobs via creating a symbol concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a timeless business image.

medical logo layout with a microscope slide as well as germs made for Oxford clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which analyzes the triggers and effects of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine which works with the laboratory evaluation of specimens of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, yet it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more captivating, more attention grabbing and much more meaningful.

logo layout with a leaping green frog designed for a household fun center in Oxford.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the business has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a some springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better lively high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a group of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Oxford traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but rather project emotional journeys through the images they record. The idea behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of most professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with mere words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Oxford logo design but also to illustrate the depth in her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Oxford logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I seriously take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but the client, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man truly disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family didn’t share his hatred for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced opinions on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family members and they really loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Business logos are a strange animal in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to create their logo design recognize how vital a logo is for their organization so they are much more invested in the outcome. Every logo design project has it’s portion of obstacles, however the greatest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, style for Oxford book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow parcel of real estate to work with, but it is the most important part of a printed book because it is often the primary thing a person sees in the bookstore. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will ever get to advertise their label and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go but it looks like that in many instances 1 of the aspects consumers usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to conferring a feeling of flight and it was certainly a winner.

Oxford logo design used for advertising and marketing as well as a tag design for Vintage Situation features an antiquated font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in all new cases for music instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this custom logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that had a fluid retro feel to it and could be utilized for anything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from another era.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Oxford, design consist of an arc with lines converging via it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can easily be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects because it seems that every dentist integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental professionals do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I actually love doing dental care logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family nonprofit, the logo includes 4 characters staggered in elevation to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be far too literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to illustrate precisely how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself will never have the chance to be understood.

Logo style developed for a hair style workshop including a script font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo that related a feeling of contentment and elegance for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept that didn’t go the obvious route of crafting simply a stylized orchid but rather created a logo design that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is usually the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the emphasis on the emotion that they wanted to transmit to their customers.

Logo design for a software application programmer the design features and legendary component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and disk managing. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a connection between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it symbolized something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the meaning behind a logo is equally as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

A logo design including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly understood the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a place to market their used items to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Oxford logo dsign using an image which garners the interest of vehicles and sends an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo design has actually an area included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo idea wasn’t actually composed for an Oxford area farm it was really developed for a products broker, and this company was one of several which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was to make an identity that projected self-confidence, effectiveness, and opulence.
Logo made for using an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is reminiscent of a renowned sporting activities group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created quite a lot of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the business owner to produce a logo that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
