STRATEGIES ON SELECTING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design company presents a money back guarantee try to bear in mind that they simply cannot refund the time you commit which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but inevitably a design agency can only be judged from the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t contain real life examples chances are they will not be able to produce a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s objective is to echo your personal vision for your business. If a designer is not focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are really focused on is how soon they can get paid.

Hermitage LOGO DESIGN

For over 2 decades ImageCo has been helping start ups and entrepreneurs develop notable brand identities. We have done branding work for farmers, schools, diamond miners, wedding singers, bistros, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business concern you can envision. What makes us unique compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be used as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first technique our logo designs can, and have been utilized in everything from garment labels to neon signs. Our sign first approach insures that our logos are just as effective whether they are used in TV commercials or web apps, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and remembered irrespective of scale or application.

American Made ★ Design

Something which truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design companies that you might have come across online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are enlisted to perform, we perform in-house. Regardless of the type of project we take on, brand identity design, business website, trade show booth, or electric sign, we do not, and never will job out our client’s work to agencies based outside the US. When you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the price of your project and dictates the conditions of how you and I conduct business.

QUALITIES OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

Every new Hermitage business understands that they need a logo, yet few start ups fully recognize the essential role their logo can play in their success, or why one logo design performs more effectively than another. A business logo has an instant and lasting impact on the financial success of a company, pick the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Hermitage businesses succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require consideration, they can be grasped in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to posters a scalable logo will stay legible and just as emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the item or business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo should be ageless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s both a verb and also a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the process of marking something so that it could be distinguished, its foundation comes from the mark burned onto livestock. These days a brand represents pretty much anything with an objective, whether it be revenue or politics, a brand is an inherent aspect of defining the worth of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s sexy sister, they are each from the exact same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity contest targeted at a specific audience, it’s objective is to develop a mental image that the target market will connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When a person says the brand names Lamborghini or Corvette what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, elegance, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why people buy most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can identify with.

Branding Agencies – If you reflect on the history of most branding firms you’ll discover that they are quite often re-branded advertising firms. When a person states they are in advertising the majority of people will likely have an idea about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or heard become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that focuses on a kind of visual design that helps form the image of a business, a product or a business. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, sign designs, packaging, and collateral products such as business cards, stationery, as well as pamphlets. Some identity designers also build websites as well as software interfaces. The essential role of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues as well as a psychological tone with the goal of affecting activities, results as well as perceptions.

select signs/logos

Retro logo design of a bicycle developed for a Hermitage coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening in an older part of the area and wanted to visualize a vintage atmosphere without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved the two tasks by designing a trademark concept that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a enduring business image.

medical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and also germs developed for Hermitage clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that researches the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare that deals with the laboratory examination of samplings of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the sole instance I recall where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Generally I try not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, yet it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more appealing, more focus grabbing and more meaningful.

logo design with a leaping eco-friendly frog developed for a household fun center in Hermitage.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the types of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental practices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the business features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better dynamic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and a tree - designed for Hermitage travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I think it is a niche field because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but rather communicate emotional journeys by means of the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they frequently share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with just words. I tried to do something similar to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Hermitage logo design but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Hermitage logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I seriously savor and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my customer, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members did not share his hatred for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to share it with colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get impartial assessments on the merit of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Custom logo designs are a strange animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo understand how important a logo is for their organization so they are much more invested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s share of difficulties, but the greatest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for Hermitage publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most necessary part of a published book considering that it is ordinarily the very first thing a person views in the bookstore. Regarding a publishing company, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever have to advertise their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go yet it seems like that in many occurrences one of the things individuals often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small startup commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their custom logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to conferring a good sense of airline flight and it was surely a success.

Hermitage logo layout made use of for advertising and marketing and a tag design for Vintage Case includes an old font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in all new cases for musical instruments, that looked to be much older cases. For this business logo concept I tried to come up with a logo that offered a fluid retro feel to it and could easily be used for anything from a website to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Hermitage, layout consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging logo design projects due to the fact that it appears that each and every dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company advertising, if restaurants approached their advertising in the exact same way dental offices do every one of their logos would be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I actually love doing dentistry business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a family not-for-profit, the logo design includes 4 personalities startled in elevation to represent a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to explain exactly how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that describes itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo layout developed for a Hermitage hair design workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design which carried a sense of serenity and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious route of designing simply a stylized orchid but instead crafted a logo design which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the concept along with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is usually the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead laid the main focus on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian horse logo layout developed for a horse cattle ranch that focuses on breeding Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a one-of-a-kind company logo concept fashioned to symbolize the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of horses. With an unique head shape and higher tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most immediately recognizable equine breeds in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Hermitage Coffee shop logo style a little dining establishment, design consists of a modified manuscript font style which hovers above a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo style a little restaurant, style contains a customized script font which floats above a team of luxuriant lines and dots.

Logo layout for a software application developer the layout features and famous Hermitage element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and hard drive operations. The kernel links the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software program and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it intimated something to the owner of the business and in many cases the significance supporting a logo is equally as important as how it serves the business it stands for.

Advance logo style developed for a Hermitageinterior developer, style feature a collection of red circles that intersect and change the letter O in the center of the logo design.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Hermitage interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is someone who organizes, investigates, coordinates, and oversees such ventures. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, location inspections, programming, analysis, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, construction supervision, and execution of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Hermitage, the characters for letter V and also A in middle of words advanced have been modified to connect straight right into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Hermitage logo design project was performed for a management coach that aids business professionals to become more successful at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A Hermitage business logo style including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly knew the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a place to sell their previously owned items to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Hermitage logo design design using an illustration that captures the interest of traffic and sends an image that calls to mind the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ ranches, this Hermitage company logo design has actually an area incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo idea wasn’t actually composed for an Hermitage area farm it was actually devised for a commodities broker, and this company logo was one of many that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was to make an identity that projects confidence, success, and prosperity.

Hermitage Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout feature for externally encountering arrowhead and the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the opportunity to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this case, I nailed a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo created for making use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script typeface that is evocative a well-known Hermitage sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted dozens of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project where I worked closely with the owner to develop a logo design that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
