Rapid City, South Dakota Logo Design

Each and every new Rapid City company knows they need a logo, however few entrepreneurs thoroughly realize the key role their company logo will play in their success, or the reason that one logo design performs more effectively than another. A company logo has an instant and long term impact on the prosperity of a company, select the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the longevity of a business.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Rapid City, South Dakota businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require scrutiny, they can be realized in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo design will continue to be legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo must be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from now.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo design of a bicycle created for a Rapid City, South Dakota coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and cafe were actually opening up in an old section of town and hoped to visualize a vintage feel without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I achieved the two tasks by designing a symbol concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide as well as germs designed for Rapid City, South Dakota clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that investigates the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory examination of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the only instance I remember in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Generally I try not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more captivating, more attention grabbing and much more memorable.

logo design with a jumping environment-friendly frog developed for a household fun center in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the types of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental experts, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better enthusiastic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a flock of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - made for Rapid City, South Dakota travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead reveal emotional experiences through the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of most professional photographers in that they often share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with just words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Rapid City logo design but also to show the depth of her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Rapid City logo style with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of business logo design projects that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A however the client, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy really despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family didn’t share his scorn for this particular breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge all of them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get honest judgements on the worthiness of a design concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they adored the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Business logos are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo comprehend how important a logo is for their business so they are way more vested in the final result. Every logo design project has it’s share of challenges, but the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, design for Rapid City, South Dakota book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin parcel of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most crucial part of a printed book due to the fact that it is often the first thing a person sees in the book store. For a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will likely ever have to publicize their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it seems like that in many cases one of the traits people often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young new venture commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a feeling of flight and it was definitely a victory.

Rapid City logo layout utilized for marketing and a tag design for Vintage Instance features an archaic typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in all new cases for musical instruments, that appeared to be vintage cases. For this logo design I sought to come up with a logo that had a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another era.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Rapid City, South Dakota, layout consist of an arc with lines intersecting via it to indicate metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can be one of the most challenging logo design projects because it seems that virtually every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business advertising, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their company logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I actually really love doing dentistry logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a family nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 characters startled in elevation to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The objective of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to explain exactly how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo layout produced for a hair style studio including a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo which projected a feeling of contentment and connection for their new hair salon. I created a design which did not go the obvious direction of making just a stylized orchid but rather created a logo that implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is usually the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately put the attention on the emotion that they wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian horse logo style created for a horse ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo layout a tiny dining establishment, layout consists of a modified manuscript font style which hovers above a group of elaborate lines and dots.

Logo design for a software programmer the layout features and iconic aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and hard drive managing. The kernel links the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it meant something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the meaning behind a logo is just as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

A logo style featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly understood the market was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a spot to sell their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Rapid City business logo dsign along with an image that grabs the interest of traffic and sends an image that arouses the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo layout MQ farms, this logo design has a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo concept wasn’t actually created for an Rapid City, South Dakota area farm it was really created for an investments broker, and this brand was one of many which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was to make a graphic that projects trust, success, and prosperity.

Rapid City Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo layout attribute for ostensibly facing arrow and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they preferred, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the flexibility to investigate any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye in the absence of realizing where the target is. Thankfully, in this case, I hit a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo design created for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font style that is reminiscent of a popular sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created loads of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking in which I worked closely with the business owner to create a logo which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
