POINTERS ON PICKING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so whenever a design agency presents a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they can’t refund the time you commit which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but in the end a design agency can only be judged from the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio does not contain actual examples odds are they won’t be able to deliver a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s objective is to echo your personal vision for your business. If a logo designer is not focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how quickly they will get paid.

Abilene LOGO DESIGN

For over 20 years ImageCo has been helping entrepreneurs establish unforgettable brands. We have done logo design work for mechanics, universities, diamond miners, party planners, coffee shops, retail stores, and just about every other kind of business concern you can envision. What makes us unique compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every brand identity project as though it will be used as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first method our logo designs can, and have been employed in everything from fashion labels to neon signs. Our sign first method insures that our logo designs are just as successful whether they are used in television commercials or web apps, they are consistently recognizable, understood, and always remembered regardless of size or application.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference that truly sets ImageCo apart from other design firms that you probably have stumbled upon in Google’s search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are retained to perform, we perform in-house. No matter the kind of project we accept, logo, web site, trade show exhibit, or retail sign, we do not, and never will farm-out our customer’s work to agencies located outside the United States. Whenever you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a go-between that increases the price of your project and dictates the terms of how my customers and I do business.

QUALITIES OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Abilene entrepreneur realizes that they need a logo, but few start ups thoroughly realize the key role their organization’s logo will play in their success, or the reason that one logo works far better than another. A logo has a critical and long term impact on the prosperity of a business, choose the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a company. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Abilene businesses succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these five traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require scrutiny, they can be comprehended in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to retail signs a scalable business logo will remain legible and just as emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos which operate on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo must be ageless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb and a noun, it is an identifying mark as well as the act of denoting something to ensure that it can be recognized, its foundation comes from the brand branded onto livestock. These days a brand signifies pretty much anything with an objective, regardless if it be profit or government agencies, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of defining the worth of something in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s attractive cousin, they are each from the same family, the difference being that marketing and advertising have to do with making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity contest aimed at a specific audience, it’s objective is to create an image that the audience will relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing and also identity design. When someone mentions the names Ferrari or Corvette what we think of is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, elegance, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and brand image is what makes people buy those products. Brand image is why people purchase specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can identify with.

Branding Agencies – If you reflect on the history of the majority of branding firms you’ll find that they are often re-branded marketing and advertising agencies. When somebody says they are in marketing lots of people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or listened to are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a type of visual design that helps form the perception of a firm, a product or a business. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, as well as collateral material such as business cards, stationery, and also sales brochures. Some visual designers also build sites and user interfaces. The necessary function of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and also an emotional tone with the objective of influencing activities, outcomes and also assumptions.

Featured SIGNS & LOGOS

Retro logo style of a bicycle produced for a Abilene coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were opening in an older part of town and hoped to visualize a retro atmosphere without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I achieved both tasks by means of developing a logo concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a timeless business image.

medical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and germs designed for Abilene clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that examines the triggers and effects of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine which works with the clinical evaluation of samples of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the sole instance I recall in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Usually I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more interesting, more interest grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo style with a jumping eco-friendly frog made for a family enjoyable facility in Abilene.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental experts, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to include a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Abilene travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead convey emotional journeys through the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they oftentimes convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness which can’t be communicated with just words. I attempted to do something much the same to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Abilene logo design but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Abilene logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of custom logo design projects that I take on I genuinely relish and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but my customer, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family didn’t share his scorn for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge all of them to talk about it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get objective judgements on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they adored the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their business logo recognize how vital a logo is for their organization so they are way more vested in the end result. Every logo design project has it’s portion of challenges, however the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, layout for Abilene publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin slice of real estate to work with, nevertheless it really is the most necessary part of a published book considering that it is usually the primary thing a person sees in the book shop. With regard to a publisher, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will likely ever have to advertise their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart however it seems that in many instances one of the things people usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller start-up commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a feeling of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a victory.

Abilene logo design made use of for advertising as well as a tag style for Vintage Case features an antiquated font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be much older cases. For this logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that had a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be used for every thing from a web page to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another era.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Abilene, style include an arc with lines converging with it to indicate metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can be one of the most challenging logo projects considering that it appears that every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business advertising, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a concept that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family members nonprofit, the logo design features 4 personalities surprised in height to represent a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to explain how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that describes itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo style developed for a Abilene hair style studio including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a company logo that conveyed a spirit of serenity and class for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept which did not go the obvious direction of creating just a stylized orchid but alternatively created a logo which implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated in to the letter O in the title and by putting emphasis on the logo design along with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is in most cases the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead put the emphasis on the perception that they really wanted to transmit to their customers.

Arabian equine logo design created for an equine cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a unique custom logo design tailored to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of equines. With a distinctive head form and very high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the highly immediately identifiable horse breeds in the world.

Las Cafe, A Abilene Coffee shop logo layout a little restaurant, layout includes a changed manuscript typeface which floats over a team of elaborate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo design a little dining establishment, style contains a changed manuscript typeface which floats above a group of elaborate lines and dots.

Logo design for a software application designer the style functions and famous Abilene element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a bridge between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it intimated something to the business owner of the business and in quite a few cases the symbolism behind a business logo is equally as important as how it brands the organization it stands for.

Progress logo design developed for a Abileneinterior designer, design function a collection of red circles that converge and replace the letter O in the middle of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Abilene interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a person who plans, explores, coordinates, and manages such ventures. Interior design is a diverse profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, location assessments, programming, study, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and implementation of the design.

logo design provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Abilene, the characters for letter V as well as A in center of the word progressed have been modified to link directly into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Abilene logo design assignment was undertaken for a leadership specialist that aids business professionals to become more efficient at overseeing people, expectations, and profitability.

A Abilene business logo layout featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly towards the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a location to market their secondhand equipment to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Abilene logo design using an illustration that garners the attention of vehicles and projects an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Abilene company logo style has a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo concept wasn’t really composed for an Abilene regional farm it was in reality developed for a products broker, and this particular company was one of a handful of which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was actually to create an identity that projected assurance, success, and prosperity.

Abilene Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo design feature for outwardly dealing with arrow and the arrowheads imply that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they would like, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the flexibility to investigate any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye without recognizing where the target is. Fortunately, in this case, I nailed a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo design developed for using an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is similar to a well-known Abilene sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted quite a lot of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project where I worked directly with the business owner to produce a business logo that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
