POINTERS FOR IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design company presents a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they simply cannot reimburse the time you commit which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some designers talk a good game but inevitably a design firm can only be evaluated by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t feature real life examples chances are they will never be able to deliver a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s objective is to mirror your unique vision for your company. If a designer is not focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Dickinson LOGO DESIGN

For over 2 decades ImageCo has been helping businesses of all kinds develop memorable brands. We’ve done brand identity design work for builders, colleges, heart surgeons, wedding singers, restaurants, retailers, and just about every other kind of business you can think of. What makes us unique compared to our competitors is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every branding project as if it will be used as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first method our brand identity designs can, and have been used in everything from fashion labels to neon signs. Our sign first approach guarantees that our logo designs are equally effective whether they are used in TV commercials or website headers, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and always remembered irrespective of scale or use.

American Made ★ Design

The thing that seriously sets ImageCo apart from many of the design firms that you might have come across online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are retained to do, we perform in-house. Regardless of the type of design project we take on, logo design, web page, trade show display, or electric sign, we do not, and never will farm out our customer’s projects to organizations located outside the USA. When you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the price of your design project and dictates the conditions of how you and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Dickinson organization knows they require a logo, yet few start ups entirely grasp the essential role their business logo will make in their success, or why one business logo works far better than another. A company logo has a critical and long term effect on the viability of a company, select the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the life of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Dickinson companies prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require consideration, they can be understood in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to retail signs a scalable business logo will be legible and just as emotive at every size.
  3. Versatility: logos which work on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo needs to be ageless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s a verb and also a noun, it is an identifying mark and the process of marking something so that it can be recognized, its genesis originates from the brand burned onto livestock. Today a brand symbolizes practically anything with an objective, whether it be revenue or government agencies, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of specifying the worth of a specific thing in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s attractive cousin, they are all from the exact same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition targeted at a target market, it’s objective is to create a mental image that the audience will likely identify with.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing and also identity design. When someone mentions the brand names Ferrari or Mustang what we think of is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those products. Brand image is why individuals get most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you reflect on the origin of most branding firms you’ll discover that they are often re-branded marketing agencies. When somebody claims they are in advertising and marketing the majority of people will likely have an idea about what they do. But when someone states “I’m in branding”… it simply sounds much more attractive, maybe it’s because most people don’t know what it implies to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and attractive.

Brand Identity – Is an inclusive term that explains the visual components of a product or business that affect understandings. This largely includes the name, the logo, the packaging, the colors utilized however can also include audio, lights, texture, signage, actually anything that can be seen, felt or heard belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design which helps shape the public image of a company, a product or a business. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, and collateral products such as business cards, stationery, and pamphlets. Some visual designers also develop sites and also user interfaces. The vital duty of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues and also a psychological tone with the objective of affecting actions, outcomes and also perceptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Dickinson coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee bar were launching in an old part of town and hoped to cast a nostalgic atmosphere without coming across as boring or low energy. I achieved the two tasks by creating a trademark design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo design with a microscopic lense slide and germs developed for Dickinson medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which investigates the triggers and effects of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that deals with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the only instance I remember where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Normally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves rather literally, yet it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more captivating, more attention grabbing and more meaningful.

logo style with a leaping green frog made for a household fun center in Dickinson.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental practices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a much more dynamic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I did was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and also a tree - created for Dickinson traveling photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to capture locations or things but rather reveal emotional experiences through the images they capture. The thought behind this logo design was to make use of negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of good photographers in that they oftentimes share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be communicated with just words. I made an effort to do something comparable to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Dickinson logo design but also to illustrate the depth in her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Dickinson logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design projects that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however the customer, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man genuinely hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his scorn for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge all of them to share it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced judgements on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Custom logo designs are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their business logo recognize how crucial a logo design is for their organization so they are much more vested in the final result. Every logo job possesses it’s share of difficulties, however the largest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, style for Dickinson publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, however it really is the most crucial part of a printed book because it is in most cases the primary thing a person views in the book shop. For a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will ever get to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches changed to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart but it seems that in many instances 1 of the traits folks usually tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small start-up commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their logo design didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a sense of airline flight and it was definitely a winner.

Dickinson logo style made use of for advertising and also a tag design for Vintage Situation features an old-fashioned font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for music instruments, which looked to be antique cases. For this brand design I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old style feel to it and could easily be used for anything from a website to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different point in time.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Dickinson, style include an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo design projects because it seems that each and every dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company marketing, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental professionals do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an image of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 personalities surprised in height to stand for a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wishes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo that communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to summarize exactly how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo style developed for a Dickinson hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design which communicated a feeling of serenity and class for their new hair salon. I created a design which did not go the obvious path of designing just a stylized orchid but alternatively crafted a company logo which implied a flower in the formation of a swirl blended into the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the concept along with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is in most cases the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately put the main focus on the feeling that they wanted to transmit to their patrons.

Arabian equine logo style developed for an equine ranch that concentrates on reproducing Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo crafted a unique creative logo design styled to manifest the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of horses. With a different head shape and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the most immediately recognizable horse lineages in the world.

Las Cafe, A Dickinson Coffee shop logo layout a tiny dining establishment, layout consists of a customized script font which floats above a team of elaborate lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a small dining establishment, design includes a modified manuscript font style which hovers over a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Logo style for a software developer the design attributes and also legendary Dickinson component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive managing. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a connection between the software and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it meant something to the owner of the business and in many cases the symbolism behind a company logo is just as important as how it brands the enterprise it represents.

Develop logo style developed for a Dickinsoninterior developer, design function a collection of red circles that converge as well as replace the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Dickinson interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who organizes, explores, collaborates, and oversees such tasks. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that involves conceptual development, space planning, site assessments, programming, analysis, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo style provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Dickinson, the personalities for letter V and also A in center of words advanced have been changed to connect directly into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Dickinson logo design project was undertaken for a leadership coach that aids business professionals to become more efficient at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A Dickinson business logo design featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly realized the market was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a spot to sell off their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Dickinson logo design design along with an illustration that seizes the attention of vehicles and sends an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.

Logo layout MQ farms, this Dickinson company logo layout has a field incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem design wasn’t actually developed for an Dickinson regional farm it was in reality devised for a commodities broker, and this company logo was one of multiple which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to make an identity that projected assurance, success, and affluence.

Dickinson Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout attribute for ostensibly facing arrowhead and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the opportunity to delve into any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without recognizing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this instance, I struck a bullseye with the very first shot.

Logo made for the use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script font that is similar to a renowned Dickinson sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created quite a lot of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the owner to create a logo design that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
