Houston Logo Design

Nearly every new Houston company knows they are in need of a logo, but few entrepreneurs thoroughly grasp the vital role their logo design can play in their success, or why one logo design works better than another. A logo design has an immediate and long term influence on the financial success of a business, choose the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a business. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Houston businesses prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require contemplation, they can be comprehended in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable logo design will continue to be legible and just as emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the organization they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a logo design needs to be ageless and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

Retro logo design of a bicycle produced for a Houston coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffeehouse were opening in an older part of the city and wished to visualize a retro tone without coming across as boring or low energy. I accomplished both jobs by means of creating a company logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide as well as bacteria designed for Houston clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that examines the triggers and outcomes of diseases, especially the branch of medicine which works with the clinical assessment of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I remember where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Normally I try not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents quite literally, however it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more interesting, more interest grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo style with a jumping green frog created for a household enjoyable center in Houston.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental experts, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the company has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo design including a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and a tree - made for Houston traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but rather project emotional experiences through the images they capture. The idea behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to project more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is representative of most professional photographers in that they often share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with just words. I attempted to do something comparable to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Houston logo design but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Houston logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of business logo design jobs that I take on I truly savor and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however my client, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man really loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members didn’t share his aversion for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to share it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced viewpoints on the benefit of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Business logos are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire an expert to design their logo understand how vital a logo design is for their organization so they are much more invested in the end result. Every logo job has it’s portion of obstacles, however the most significant obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, design for Houston book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow piece of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most essential part of a printed book because it is often the very first thing a person views in the book store. With regard to a publisher, it’s the best opportunity they will likely ever have to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go yet it seems like that in many cases one of the items consumers tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller start-up commuter/shuttle airline located in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their logo design didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a feeling of air travel and it was definitely a victory.

Houston logo style utilized for advertising and marketing as well as a tag style for Vintage Situation features an archaic typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be vintage cases. For this custom logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that had a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a website to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Houston, layout include an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most difficult logo jobs due to the fact that it appears that every single dentist integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company branding, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I actually love doing dental care business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a household nonprofit, the logo features 4 characters staggered in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his community. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution hopes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to explain specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If you have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that explains itself will never have the chance to be understood.

Logo design created for a hair style studio including a script font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a business logo which related a spirit of calmness and class for their new hair salon. I created a concept that did not go the obvious route of designing simply a stylized orchid but alternatively crafted a logo that suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl blended into the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird floating above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is usually the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the focus on the feeling that they really wanted to transmit to their customers.

Arabian equine logo layout created for a steed ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian program horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo design for a software program programmer the layout features as well as legendary component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a connection in between the software and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it meant something to the owner of the company and in many cases the meaning supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it brands the business it stands for.

Advance logo design produced for a Houston indoor designer, style feature a collection of red circles that intersect and change the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Houston logo design assignment was carried out for a leadership consultant that helps business leaders to become more efficient at overseeing people, expectations, and productivity.

A logo design featuring an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly understood the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a place to sell off their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Houston logo design dsign with a graphic that seizes the interest of vehicles and projects an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo layout MQ farms, this logo style has actually a field incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo concept wasn’t really produced for an Houston regional farm it was actually created for a commodities broker, and this company logo was one of multiple that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to design a graphic that projected assurance, effectiveness, and luxury.
Logo design developed for making use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script font that is evocative a well-known sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great undertaking where I worked closely with the proprietor to develop a business logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
