STRATEGIES FOR IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design agency offers a money back guarantee try to remember that they can not reimburse the time you invest which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many design firms talk a good game but ultimately a designer can only be determined by the quality of their design work, if the work in their portfolio does not feature real world examples odds are they won’t be able to deliver a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be recognized and be unforgettable, and it’s objective is to echo your personal vision for your company. If a designer is not focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Hurst LOGO DESIGN

For over twenty years ImageCo has been helping small business owners develop notable brands. We have performed brand identity design work for mechanics, educational institutions, diamond miners, wedding singers, cafes, retailers, and practically every other kind of business you can imagine. What makes ImageCo different compared to traditional designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every design as though it will be utilized as an electric sign. Because of our sign first method our brand identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from garment labels to billboards. Our sign first approach guarantees that our logos are equally effective whether they are used in television commercials or website applications, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and always remembered irrespective of size or function.

American Made ★ Design

Something which seriously sets ImageCo apart from many of the design firms that you probably have found in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are hired to do, we do ourselves. Irrespective of the type of project we undertake, business logo, business website, trade show display, or electrical sign, we do not, and never will farm out our customer’s projects to companies located outside the United States. When you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the price of your project and dictates the terms of how we conduct business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Hurst entrepreneur understands that they probably need a logo, but few start ups fully realize the crucial role their organization’s logo will play in their financial success, or exactly why one business logo performs more effectively than another. A company logo has an instant and lasting influence on the success of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of an organization. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Hurst companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these 5 things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not need scrutiny, they can be comprehended in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to billboards a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the product or company they brand.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be timeless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark and also the process of marking something so that it could be identified, its foundation comes from the brand burned onto livestock. Today a brand symbolizes pretty much anything with an objective, whether it be profit or politics, a brand is an innate aspect of defining the value of something in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s sexy sister, they are both from the exact same family, the difference being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition directed at a specific audience, it’s goal is to create an image that the target market will relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When somebody mentions the brand names Lamborghini or Corvette what we think of is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can deliver us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, elegance, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and that is what makes people want those brands. Brand image is why people purchase most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you look back at the origin of most branding firms you’ll find that they are frequently rebranded advertising and marketing firms. When someone says they are in advertising many people will likely have an idea about what they do. But when somebody says “I’m in branding”… it just seems much more attractive, perhaps it’s since most individuals do not understand what it implies to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and perhaps even attractive.

Brand Identity – Is an inclusive term that defines the visual elements of a product or agency that affect understandings. This mostly consists of the name, the logo, the product packaging, the colors utilized yet can likewise include sound, illumination, texture, signage, really anything that can be seen, felt or listened to belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that focuses on a kind of visual design which helps shape the perception of a business, a product or a company. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, as well as collateral products such as business cards, stationery, and sales brochures. Some identity designers also build web sites and user interfaces. The necessary role of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and a psychological tone with the goal of affecting actions, outcomes and also perceptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo style of a bike produced for a Hurst coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening in an old section of the community and wanted to project a vintage atmosphere without appearing as boring or low energy. I achieved the two jobs via creating a logo design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide and germs developed for Hurst medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which studies the root causes and effects of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare that deals with the clinical assessment of samples of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I recall in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents rather literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo design with a leaping eco-friendly frog developed for a household enjoyable facility in Hurst.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the business features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Hurst travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche field because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead convey emotional experiences through the pictures they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is representative of the majority of good photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be communicated with just words. I tried to do something very similar to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Hurst logo design but also to show the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Hurst logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of logo design projects that I take on I really savor and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my customer, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his friends and family did not share his hatred for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge them to share it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial judgements on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to create their logo design understand how essential a logo is for their organization so they are much more invested in the end result. Every logo design job has it’s allotment of difficulties, however the biggest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, layout for Hurst publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most essential part of a printed book due to the fact that it is usually the primary thing a person sees in the book store. For a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will ever have to promote their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go however it looks like that in many occurrences 1 of the items people usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young start-up commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to conferring a feeling of air travel and it was certainly a victory.

Hurst logo layout made use of for advertising and marketing and a label design for Vintage Case features an old font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, that looked to be much older cases. For this logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that provided a fluid old style feel to it and could easily be utilized for every thing from a website to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another generation.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Hurst, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting via it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo jobs due to the fact that it seems that almost every dentist integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the same way dentists do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really love doing dentist logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a concept that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a family nonprofit, the logo features 4 characters startled in height to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the residents in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to illustrate exactly how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that describes itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo layout developed for a Hurst hair design studio including a script font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo that projected a feeling of contentment and class for their new hair studio. I created a concept that didn’t go the obvious path of designing just a stylized orchid but rather delivered a company logo which implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the logo design using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is oftentimes the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately put the emphasis on the perception that they wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian equine logo design produced for an equine cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed an original business logo concept fashioned to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of equines. With a distinctive head shape and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most easily recognizable horse breeds in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Hurst Coffee shop logo style a little dining establishment, style consists of a changed script font style which floats above a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo layout a tiny restaurant, design consists of a modified manuscript font which floats over a team of ornate lines and dots.

Logo layout for a software designer the style features as well as iconic Hurst element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk management. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection between the software program and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it meant something to the business owner of the business and in quite a few cases the symbolism supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

Progress logo style produced for a Hurstinterior designer, design function a series of red circles that converge and also change the letter O in the middle of the logo design.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Hurst interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a person who organizes, researches, collaborates, and manages such projects. Interior design is a multifaceted occupation that includes conceptual development, area planning, site evaluations, programming, analysis, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and implementation of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Hurst, the characters for letter V and also A in center of words advanced have actually been changed to connect directly into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Hurst logo design assignment was carried out for a leadership coach that enables business professionals to develop into more successful at managing people, expectations, and profitability.

A Hurst business logo layout featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly realized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a spot to sell off their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Hurst logo design design along with a graphic that garners the interest of vehicles and sends an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Hurst company logo design has actually an area integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo idea wasn’t really developed for an Hurst area farm it was really devised for a products broker, and this particular brand was one of a handful of which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was really to generate a brand mark that projects trust, financial success, and opulence.

Hurst Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo layout feature for ostensibly encountering arrow as well as the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they preferred, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the opportunity to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without understanding where the target is. Luckily, in this particular case, I hit a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo design made for the use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is similar to a renowned Hurst sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created quite a lot of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project in which I worked closely with the owner to design a business logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
