Idylwood Logo Design

Virtually every new Idylwood company knows they need a logo, but few entrepreneurs fully recognize the crucial role their logo will perform in their becoming successful, or why one business logo works far better than another. A business logo has a critical and long-term effect on the prosperity of a business, select the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Idylwood companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t demand deliberation, they can be understood in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a logo must be ageless and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from today.

Retro logo design of a bicycle produced for a Idylwood coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and bistro were actually opening up in an older section of the town and really wanted to project an old-fashioned atmosphere without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished each of the tasks by means of developing a custom logo design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and germs made for Idylwood medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which examines the root causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare that deals with the laboratory evaluation of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves rather literally, but it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more interesting, more interest grabbing and much more meaningful.

logo style with a leaping environment-friendly frog developed for a family members enjoyable facility in Idylwood.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dentists, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to integrate a couple springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design including a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for Idylwood traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead project emotional journeys through the images they record. The idea behind this logo design was to make use of negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they often share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Idylwood logo but also to reveal the depth of her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Idylwood logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I honestly savor and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A but the client, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy genuinely despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his friends and family did not share his aversion for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage all of them to talk about it with friends and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get honest opinions on the merit of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family members and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to create their logo recognize how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are much more invested in the result. Every logo design project possesses it’s share of obstacles, however the most significant challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Idylwood publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin parcel of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most necessary part of a printed book because it is in most cases the very first thing a person sees in the book shop. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity they will ever have to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems like that in many cases one of the things folks often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller start-up commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a feeling of airline flight and it was surely a victory.

Idylwood logo design utilized for advertising and marketing and a tag style for Vintage Instance includes an old-fashioned font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for music instruments, that seemed to be vintage cases. For this logo concept I attempted to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be used for every thing from a web site to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another point in time.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Idylwood, layout include an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs considering that it appears that virtually every dental professional includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to business advertising, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental professionals do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would likely contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I actually love doing dental care logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a family not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 personalities staggered in elevation to stand for a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The objective of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to explain exactly how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If you have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo style produced for a hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design that carried a sense of relaxation and class for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept that did not go the obvious route of designing simply a stylized orchid but instead delivered a company logo which implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended into the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the logo design using the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is generally the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead put the focus on the emotion that they really wanted to transmit to their customers.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo style for a software application designer the design features and legendary element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and drive management. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a connection in between the software program and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the substance supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it serves the company it stands for.

logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions, the personalities for letter V as well as A in middle of the word progressed have actually been modified to link directly into the words below.

A logo layout featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly realized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a spot to market their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Idylwood logo dsign with an illustration which garners the attention of traffic and sends an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo design has actually an area integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo design wasn’t really produced for an Idylwood regional farm it was really designed for an investments broker, and this particular business logo was one of many that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to generate a brand mark that projects trust, effectiveness, and prosperity.
Logo design created for making use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is similar to a renowned sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted loads of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the business owner to produce a business logo that worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
