Roanoke Logo Design

Every new Roanoke business realizes that they need a logo, but few new business owners entirely grasp the pivotal role their logo can take in their financial success, or exactly why one business logo works better than another. A logo design has an instant and sustaining effect on the financial success of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a company. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Roanoke companies prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not demand deliberation, they can be understood in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo must be enduring and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from today.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle created for a Roanoke coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and coffee bar were launching in an old part of town and hoped to cast a vintage atmosphere without appearing as monotonous or low energy. I fulfilled each of the jobs by designing a logo design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a enduring business image.

clinical logo design with a microscope slide and also germs designed for Roanoke medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which studies the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine that works with the clinical examination of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the only instance I remember in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Usually I try not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, but it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more interesting, more interest grabbing and more memorable.

logo layout with a jumping green frog made for a family members fun facility in Roanoke.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to incorporate a handful of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a better dynamic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo featuring a group of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - created for Roanoke travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot places or things but instead project emotional experiences by means of the photos they capture. The idea behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is representative of the majority of good photographers in that they oftentimes share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be conveyed with just words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Roanoke logo but also to illustrate the depth of her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Roanoke logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design jobs that I take on I truly relish and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A but the client, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man really despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family did not share his contempt for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage all of them to share it with friends and family members as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get unbiased judgements on the merit of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they really liked the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Business logos are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to design their logo design comprehend how essential a logo is for their organization so they are way more vested in the end result. Every logo project possesses it’s allotment of challenges, but the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Roanoke book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender segment of real estate to work with, but it really is the most necessary part of a printed book because it is often the first thing a person sees in the book shop. For a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will ever have to spotlight their label and get their logo design in front of the people that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart however it seems that in many cases 1 of the things individuals tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young startup commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to conferring a spirit of flight and it was certainly a success.

Roanoke logo layout used for advertising and marketing as well as a label style for Vintage Case includes an old-fashioned typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be vintage cases. For this brand design I attempted to come up with a logo that had a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different era.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Roanoke, style consist of an arc with lines converging via it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging logo design projects considering that it appears that virtually every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business marketing, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would most likely have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I really enjoy doing dental care business logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a household nonprofit, the logo design features 4 characters startled in height to represent a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the people residing in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to illustrate specifically how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo style produced for a hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a business logo which projected a spirit of relaxation and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a design which didn’t go the obvious path of crafting merely a stylized orchid but instead crafted a logo design that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the title and by putting emphasis on the concept with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is usually the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead laid the main focus on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their patrons.

Logo layout for a software program designer the design attributes and renowned aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and disk managing. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a connection between the software program and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the significance behind a logo is equally as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

A logo layout featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly knew the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a location to sell their previously owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Roanoke business logo dsign with an illustration that seizes the interest of vehicles and projects an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo design has actually an area integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo concept wasn’t really designed for an Roanoke regional farm it was really designed for a commodities broker, and this business logo was one of many which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was to make an identity that projected trust, success, and opulence.
Logo design created for making use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is evocative a renowned sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed loads of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the proprietor to design a logo which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
