Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Developing a brand identity or a custom logo design that is both memorable and expresses the story about who you are or what you do is a monumental task. The difficulty is to come up with a design concept which is simple enough to be comprehended at a glimpse and conveys enough information that it can communicate who you are. However no logo design can totally tell your story or explain your business, and travelling down that road often produces a brand identity design that does neither. But, in skillful hands, it is possible to strike a balance between the two and design a logo that both informs and emotes and reaching that sweet spot is what every business should hope for from their logo designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am an independent branding professional. For over 20 years I have been creating unforgettable logos and brand identity designs that tell stories and resonate with customers. However don’t take my word for it, check out my work and see for yourself. I don’t assert that I’m the greatest designer in the world, however, I do know what I’m doing and my clients tend to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often stated with such vehemence by individuals working in the branding sector, that one ought to question why so many people in branding agencies despise logos as much as they appear to. It is quite true that your logo is not your business’s brand, however what does that make a business that has no logo? One thing is quite certain, it guarantees that a brand with no logo will be faceless and quickly forgotten.

Without a visual identity, a company’s brand is simply nothing more than a fading memory because consumers would have nothing to anchor their experiences too.

Some people compare a business’s logo to a smile or a handshake which is somewhat accurate, however it’s actually far more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also acts as the cornerstone of an organization’s brand image. A logo acts as an anchor due to the fact that the entire brand experience is anchored to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, because a cornerstone is the first stone placed when constructing the foundation of the structure above it, and once it is laid it will be the reference point for every thing that comes after it. A logo serves in the same way, it is a foundational building block that supports the organization it represents, and it continuously serves as a defining reference point that guides a brand as it expands.

ImageCo is a visual branding agency and our mission is to aid our clients lay that cornerstone as well as set that anchor. We help organizations look more established, more polished, and more knowledgeable. This ensures that our clients will always be taken seriously, and are not only entitled to a seat at the table, but look like they ought to be seated at the head of that table.

Because of our sign first technique our identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from clothing labels to billboards. Our sign first approach ensures that our logo designs are just as reliable whether they are used in TV commercials or website headers, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and remembered irrespective of size or purpose.

American Made ★ Design

Something that truly sets ImageCo apart from other design firms that you probably have stumbled upon in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are brought on board to perform, we perform in-house. Regardless of the type of project we accept, brand identity design, web site, trade show display, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will job out our client’s work to companies based outside the United States. Whenever you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a middleman that marks up the price of your project and imposes the terms of how my customers and I do business.

QUALITIES OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Covington organization understands that they need a logo, however few start-ups thoroughly understand the crucial role their logo will perform in their success, or the reason that one logo performs more effectively than another. A logo design has an instant and sustaining effect on the financial success of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life of an organization.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Covington companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t need consideration, they can be grasped in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to retail signs a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at virtually any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the item or company they brand.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be ageless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s a verb and a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the process of noting something to make sure that it can be recognized, its genesis comes from the mark branded onto livestock. Today a brand signifies pretty much anything with a motive, regardless of whether it be profit or politics, a brand is an innate aspect of defining the value of something in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like marketing and advertising’s sexy sister, they are all from the exact same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition aimed at a target audience, it’s goal is to produce an image that the target market will connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person mentions the brand names Lamborghini or Corvette what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why individuals buy specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you look back at the beginning of most branding firms you’ll find that they are often re-branded marketing firms. When someone claims they are in marketing most people will likely have an idea about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or heard belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design that helps shape the public image of a business, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, and collateral material such as business cards, stationery, as well as sales brochures. Some visual designers also build sites and user interfaces. The important function of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the goal of affecting activities, end results and also perceptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo layout of a bike created for a Covington coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and coffeehouse were opening in an old section of the city and hoped to cast an old-fashioned feel without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved the two jobs by means of designing a business logo concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide and also germs created for Covington clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that investigates the causes and consequences of diseases, especially the field of medicine which deals with the clinical examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I recollect in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Normally I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it serves rather literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more intriguing, more attention grabbing and more memorable.

logo design with a leaping green frog created for a family members fun facility in Covington.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of jobs that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental professionals, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a group of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - created for Covington travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector because travel photographers tend not to capture places or things but rather project emotional journeys by means of the pictures they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of most good photographers in that they often share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with mere words. I attempted to do something comparable to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Covington logo design but also to reveal the depth of her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Covington logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of custom logo design projects that I take on I really relish and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my customer, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family members did not share his scorn for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get neutral viewpoints on the merit of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they really loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Business logos are a strange animal in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to create their business logo recognize how essential a logo design is for their business so they are way more vested in the outcome. Every logo design project has it’s share of obstacles, but the most significant obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Covington publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, but it is the most vital part of a printed book since it is usually the initial thing a person views in the book store. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity they will likely ever have to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it seems like that in many occurrences 1 of the items individuals often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller new venture commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a sense of flight and it was surely a success.

Covington logo layout utilized for advertising and a label design for Vintage Case includes an old typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, which appeared to be older cases. For this logo design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old style feel to it and could be used for everything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different point in time.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Covington, design include an arc with lines converging with it to imply steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental business logos can be one of the most difficult logo jobs considering that it seems that every single dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business advertising, if restaurants approached their branding in the very same way dental practitioners do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would most likely include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really love doing dental care logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a family nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 personalities startled in height to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his city. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to describe exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo design produced for a Covington hair design studio including a script font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a company logo that carried a spirit of ease and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a design which did not go the obvious course of designing simply a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a company logo which suggested a flower in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is generally the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the attention on the feeling that they really wanted to transmit to their customers.

Arabian equine logo design produced for a horse cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed an original custom logo concept styled to exemplify the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of equines. With an unique head shape and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the highly immediately recognizable equine types in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Covington restaurant logo layout a small restaurant, design contains a modified script font which hovers over a team of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo layout a little restaurant, layout contains a changed script typeface which floats above a group of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo design for a software programmer the layout functions and also renowned Covington component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and hard drive operations. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the owner of the business and in many cases the symbolism supporting a company logo is just as important as how it brands the business it stands for.

Develop logo layout produced for a Covingtonindoor developer, layout feature a collection of red circles that intersect as well as change the letter O in the middle of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Covington interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Covington, the characters for letter V and also A in middle of words progressed have actually been customized to connect directly into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Covington logo design assignment was carried out for a leadership specialist that aids business professionals to become more effective at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A Covington business logo design featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a place to market their secondhand equipment to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Covington logo design with an illustration which garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo style MQ ranches, this Covington company logo layout has actually a field incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand concept wasn’t really designed for an Covington area farm it was actually designed for a products broker, and this trademark was one of several which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to make an identity that projected self-assurance, success, and opulence.

Covington Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout attribute for ostensibly encountering arrow as well as the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design that they preferred, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the opportunity to investigate any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of realizing where exactly the target is. Thankfully, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the first go.

Logo design developed for making use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript typeface that is similar to a renowned Covington sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created quite a lot of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project where I worked closely with the business owner to develop a business logo which worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
