Spanaway, Washington Logo Design

Nearly every new Spanaway company understands that they require a logo, but few new business owners thoroughly grasp the vital role their logo design will perform in their becoming successful, or precisely why one logo design performs better than another. A business logo has an instant and long-term effect on the success of a business, go with the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a company.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Spanaway, Washington businesses succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand scrutiny, they can be understood in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to movie screens a scalable business logo will be legible and equally emotive at any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the enterprise they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be enduring and should feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.
Retro logo style of a bicycle created for a Spanaway, Washington coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and bistro were launching in an old part of the town and wished to impart an old-fashioned vibe without appearing as monotonous or low energy. I fulfilled both tasks by developing a custom logo concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide and germs created for Spanaway, Washington clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which analyzes the root causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory assessment of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents quite literally, yet it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more interesting, more interest grabbing and even more memorable.

logo design with a jumping environment-friendly frog created for a family members fun center in Spanaway, Washington.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental offices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to integrate a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, and a tree - developed for Spanaway, Washington travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but rather project emotional experiences by means of the images they capture. The thought behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of most professional photographers in that they often share whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness which can’t be conveyed with just words. I attempted to do something very similar to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Spanaway logo design but also to show the depth of her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Spanaway logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design jobs that I take on I seriously relish and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A but the client, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man genuinely disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his aversion for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage them to talk about it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial viewpoints on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they really loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logo designs are a weird animal in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their business logo recognize how important a logo is for their organization so they are much more vested in the end result. Every logo design job has it’s portion of challenges, however the greatest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for Spanaway, Washington book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, but it is the most essential part of a printed book given that it is in most cases the first thing a person sees in the book shop. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity that they will ever get to advertise their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart however it seems like that in many cases 1 of the things folks often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young new venture commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a good sense of flight and it was definitely a winner.

Spanaway logo design made use of for advertising and also a tag layout for Vintage Case features an old-fashioned font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be antique cases. For this custom logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that had a fluid vintage feel to it and could be utilized for anything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different era.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Spanaway, Washington, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging logo design jobs considering that it seems that each and every dental professional includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business branding, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would likely include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I actually love doing dentist business logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a concept that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family not-for-profit, the logo features 4 characters surprised in height to represent a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the families in his community. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to describe precisely how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that describes itself will never have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo style developed for a hair design workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design which communicated an atmosphere of calmness and class for their new hair studio. I created a design which did not go the obvious path of designing merely a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a logo design which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the image itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is in most cases the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead placed the attention on the perception that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.

Logo style for a software programmer the style functions and iconic element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge between the software and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it intimated something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the meaning supporting a logo is equally as important as how it serves the enterprise it represents.

A logo layout including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly realized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a location to sell off their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Spanaway business logo dsign along with a graphic that garners the attention of vehicles and projects an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo layout has an area integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem design wasn’t really produced for an Spanaway, Washington area farm it was really devised for an investments broker, and this particular logo design was one of several which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was really to generate a brand mark that projects assurance, financial success, and prosperity.

Spanaway Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo style function for outwardly encountering arrowhead and the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the liberty to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without knowing where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo designed for using a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font that is reminiscent of a popular sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created quite a lot of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked directly with the owner to produce a logo design which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
