Washington Logo Design

Each and every new Washington business knows they need a logo, yet few new business owners entirely are aware of the key role their organization logo will perform in their success, or precisely why one logo design performs more effectively than another. A logo has an instant and sustaining impact on the success of a company, choose the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the incorrect one and it will be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life of a business. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Washington businesses succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not require consideration, they can be comprehended in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo design will remain legible and just as emotive at virtually any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

Retro logo layout of a bike created for a Washington coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and bistro were opening in an older section of the community and wished to cast an old-fashioned atmosphere without appearing as boring or low energy. I fulfilled the two jobs by developing a business logo design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscope slide and bacteria created for Washington clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that examines the triggers and effects of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare that works with the clinical examination of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I remember in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents rather literally, yet it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and more meaningful.

logo style with a jumping eco-friendly frog created for a family fun center in Washington.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental offices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to incorporate a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for advertising and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a group of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and a tree - designed for Washington traveling photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but rather project emotional experiences through the images they capture. The thought behind this logo concept was to make use of negative space to project more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of almost all professional photographers in that they often convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness which can’t be communicated with mere words. I tried to do something much the same to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Washington logo design but also to illustrate the depth of her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Washington logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I seriously enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A however the customer, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man seriously despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family didn’t share his aversion for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge all of them to share it with colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t even know so as to get unbiased opinions on the value of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Business logos are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo comprehend how essential a logo is for their business so they are way more invested in the final result. Every logo design project has it’s share of challenges, however the largest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, layout for Washington publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender parcel of real estate to work with, nevertheless it is the most important part of a printed book since it is ordinarily the first thing a person sees in the book store. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever get to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems that in many cases one of the traits people tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small startup commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a sense of air travel and it was surely a winner.

Washington logo layout used for advertising and marketing as well as a label design for Vintage Case includes an old typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this business logo design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old style feel to it and could be used for everything from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different era.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Washington, style consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to indicate steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can be one of the most difficult logo jobs because it seems that every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to business advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dentists do every one of their company logos would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I actually love doing dental care business logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a concept that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design created for a family nonprofit, the logo features 4 personalities surprised in height to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be overly literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution hopes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to illustrate specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that explains itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo layout produced for a hair design studio including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a business logo that conveyed a sense of tranquility and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a concept that didn’t go the obvious path of creating just a stylized orchid but rather crafted a business logo which suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl incorporated in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design with the figure of a hummingbird floating above the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is oftentimes the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead put the emphasis on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their clients.

Arabian horse logo style developed for a horse cattle ranch that focuses on breeding Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo design for a software application designer the style attributes and famous aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and disk operations. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a connection between the software and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the substance behind a business logo is just as important as how it serves the enterprise it represents.

Progress logo design produced for a Washington indoor developer, design feature a series of red circles that converge and also replace the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

A logo design including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly understood the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a place to sell off their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Washington logo design dsign using an illustration that garners the interest of vehicles and sends an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo layout has a field included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo idea wasn’t really composed for an Washington area farm it was really devised for an investments broker, and this company logo was one of several which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to generate a graphic that projected esteem, effectiveness, and wealth.
Logo created for using a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script font style that is reminiscent of a renowned sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project in which I worked closely with the owner to create a logo that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
