Wheeling, West Virginia Logo Design

Every new Wheeling company realizes that they need a logo, however few new business owners fully grasp the key role their business logo can play in their becoming successful, or the reason that one logo design functions better than another. A business logo has a critical and long term effect on the prosperity of a business, choose the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the life span of a business.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Wheeling, West Virginia businesses succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not demand scrutiny, they can be comprehended in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable logo design will continue to be legible and just as emotive at virtually any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design should be lasting and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo design of a bicycle created for a Wheeling, West Virginia coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and bistro were actually launching in an old section of the area and wanted to visualize an old-fashioned atmosphere without appearing as monotonous or low energy. I fulfilled the two jobs by creating a custom logo design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and germs designed for Wheeling, West Virginia clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which investigates the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of medicine which deals with the laboratory assessment of samplings of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the sole instance I remember in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and even more memorable.

logo style with a jumping green frog developed for a household fun facility in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a more lively high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, and a tree - created for Wheeling, West Virginia traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche field because travel photographers tend not to shoot places or things but rather project emotional experiences through the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they oftentimes share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness which can’t be revealed with mere words. I attempted to do something similar to this logo by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Wheeling logo design but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Wheeling logo style with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of business logo design projects that I take on I truly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but the customer, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family members did not share his contempt for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I urge them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced point of views on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family and they really liked the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Business logos are a strange animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to design their business logo comprehend how crucial a logo is for their company so they are way more vested in the outcome. Every logo design project has it’s portion of difficulties, but the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Wheeling, West Virginia book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most important part of a printed book considering that it is often the very first thing a person sees in the book shop. For a publisher, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will likely ever have to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart however it seems that in many occurrences 1 of the items individuals often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a spirit of flight and it was undoubtedly a victory.

Wheeling logo layout utilized for advertising as well as a tag design for Vintage Case features an old font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, which appeared to be much older cases. For this logo design I strove to come up with a logo that had a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another era.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Wheeling, West Virginia, layout include an arc with lines converging through it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logos can be one of the most difficult logo design jobs because it seems that almost every dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really love doing dentistry logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo created for a family members not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 personalities startled in height to represent a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo that communicated that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to describe precisely how people should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo design produced for a hair design workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird as well as an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a business logo which projected an atmosphere of serenity and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design that didn’t go the obvious route of making simply a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a logo design which suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is in most cases the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately put the importance on the emotion that they wanted to transmit to their patrons.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo design for a software application developer the layout features and iconic component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive managing. The kernel links the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge between the software and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it meant something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the meaning behind a business logo is just as important as how it serves the company it stands for.

A logo design including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly recognized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a place to sell off their pre-owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Wheeling business logo dsign using an image which grabs the attention of vehicles and sends an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo design has an area integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo concept wasn’t actually designed for an Wheeling, West Virginia area farm it was in reality devised for an investments broker, and this brand was one of multiple which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was to develop a brand mark that projects confidence, financial success, and affluence.

Wheeling Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo style function for ostensibly dealing with arrowhead and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design they would like, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the freedom to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where the target is. Luckily, in this case, I hit a bullseye with the 1st try.

Logo design created for making use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is reminiscent of a well-known sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created dozens of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking where I worked closely with the owner to produce a logo design that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
